Weekend Part-Time MBA On-Campus Electives

While our weekend format offers you the flexibility to pursue your MBA and maintain your career, it doesn’t allow for a full specialization or concentration. However, our electives offer all students the opportunity to take a deeper dive into subjects that are of particular interest to them.

Requirements/Availability

All students in the Weekend Part-Time MBA One-Year or Two-Year options are required to take one elective course. The course must be taken prior to the end of the final term of the program. Elective courses may not be taken after you graduate.

Prerequisites

Some courses may have prerequisites. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a passing grade prior to the start of the elective course. In other words, you may not take an elective course while you are taking its prerequisite course.

Schedule

Elective courses will be taught in a one-week format. Classes are expected to meet Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch. In addition to attending all class sessions, students should expect to commit time outside these hours during the week to studying, assignments, possible team meetings, etc.

Because these courses will be taken by students in multiple cohorts, it is possible you may have classes the weekend before or the weekend after your elective course. You should plan your work in your “regular” semester-long courses accordingly (i.e., do that work before the elective course begins if necessary).

Because the schedules overlap, a student may only take one elective course at a time.

Payment

Payment requirements for the course will vary depending on your format, whether you have taken an elective previously, and possible adjustments you may have requested we make to your invoices for company reimbursement purposes. You should fit into one of the three following categories:

  1. If you are required to take the course for your format, and you have not already taken an elective, and your invoices follow the original payment schedule, then you will not be charged extra for the course.
  2. If you are required to take the course for your format, and your invoices have been broken down to reflect specific charges per course, you will be charged for the course during the semester in which you take it, based on the per-credit-hour fees .
  3. If you are not required to take the course (either you have already taken an elective course, or your format does not require you to take one), you will be charged for the course during the semester in which you take it.

Unless you are in category 1) above, you will be invoiced for the course 30 days prior to its start date*. Payment must be made before the class begins, or you will not be permitted to attend the class. Because of the extremely short duration of the class, fee deferments will not be granted for students receiving financial aid or company support.

*If you add a course within 30 days prior to the start of class, you will NOT be given 30 days to pay your fees. All fees must be paid before beginning the class.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take an elective course after I graduate?

No. Your required course must be taken before your program ends. At this time, we are not offering the courses to MBA alumni who wish to take extra courses. However, once you have taken your required elective, you may take an additional elective on a space-available basis before you graduate.

Where will I stay?

It is your responsibility to make hotel reservations. If you originally made reservations at the Holiday Inn, the Paramount Plaza, or the SpringHill Suites via the MBA website before Orientation, you should NOT assume you will have a room for the electives. We have blocked off some rooms at local hotels. Information on hotels will be sent separately.

How will teams work in the electives?

Since each elective course will be comprised of students from a number of cohorts, your regular team will not be used. Some faculty may use teams during the one-week course, and some may not. Your instructor will explain any team assignments on the first day of class.

What about books?

Just as with your regular Weekend Part-Time MBA classes, books and course packets are included in tuition. Course materials will be made available to you prior to the first day of class either by pick-up when you are in town, or they will be shipped to you.

Can I earn a concentration or certificate in an Executive, Part-Time or Online program?

Concentrations and certificates are only available within our Full-Time programs. If enrolled in a Part-Time Two-Year or online program, students have the ability to select a Focus Area (entrepreneurship, finance, international, or marketing) that provides flexibility and enables them to enroll in electives that align with career goals.
