COVID-related Debt with Denton Williams

We’re excited to announce the new PURC Refresher Series, designed for our extensive network of PURC alumni. Together we will explore timely topics to sharpen your technical and strategic skills.

In our first refresher session, we discuss COVID-related debt. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic changed the global economy. In response, nearly every country implemented some type of moratorium on disconnection of critical utility service for non-payment. This moratorium led to billions in COVID-related debt around the world with no easy solution to resolve it. As countries around the world struggle with alternatives to resolve this issue, few countries have implemented solutions.

Bermuda is one of those countries leading the way. We are excited to host Denton Williams, Chief Executive of the Regulatory Authority of Bermuda, to hear about their solution and the role of the regulator, the utility, the government, and the people in addressing this challenging issue.
