Ensuring water and sanitation during the pandemic: The experience of NWSC of Uganda on June 16, 2020
What do telecom operators and water operators have in common during the pandemic? Plenty, if you look at what National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has been doing in Uganda. NWSC has taken some interesting steps to manage during through COVID-19. NWSC has worked with Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) to finance expansion of water supply. NWSC has also worked with customers to maintain connections while remaining financially viable.
How has NWSC experimented, learned, and managed? On Tuesday, June 16, we interviewed Mahmood Lutaaya, General Manager Kampala Water. Eng. Lutaaya shared how the pandemic impacts customers and the company, how NWSC stays in touch with customers, what NWSC has done to help customers afford their services, NWSC’s partnership with MTN, and how NWSC has worked with ministry officials to ensure that the government makes fully informed decisions.
