Facebook’s Oversight Board is wrong to punt on Facebook’s Trump ban

Facebook’s Oversight Board has punted on whether to reinstate former President Donald Trump’s Facebook account or permanently close it. Facebook indefinitely banned Trump from the social media site based on his posts during the January 6 Capitol Hill riot, then referred the issue to the board.

On Wednesday, the board — which was established to make final rulings on selected content moderation cases — announced it would leave Trump’s ban in place for six more months and directed Facebook to re-decide the issue within that time.
