Next Practices Live with Mike Trainor on May 11, 2020

Utilities and governments around the world are struggling with financial and political sustainability during the pandemic. Because these are uncharted waters, no one has best practices. But what are the Next Practices that they are trying? What is being learned?

These questions were the subject of Next Practices Live with Michael Trainor of the Asian Development Bank. PURC is honored to be able to work with him. He is currently an Energy Specialist in the Central and West Asia Department. Prior to joining the ADB, he worked for USAID in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union designing and managing energy-sector reform programs, sector privatizations and greenfield generation investments.

Mike talked about practical solutions to utility financial struggles with the pandemic, mistakes that utilities and/or governments often make, emerging weaknesses in governance and regulation, and experiences in holding difficult conversations with politicians about utility financial needs.
