Our focus on relationships through mentors, conferences, speaker series, and in-class visitors gives you unparalleled access to the best and brightest in the industry.
UF’s Real Estate degree programs and activities are supported by the Bergstrom Real Estate Center. Although housed in the Warrington College of Business, the Bergstrom Center promotes interaction with related UF programs such as construction management, urban planning, and architecture. This multidisciplinary approach, coupled with the active involvement of industry professionals, provides a premiere educational experience for UF students.
Each MSRE student is formally paired with several professional mentors, who are current members of our UF Real Estate Advisory Board. Mentors provide students with career counseling and advice throughout their stay at UF and beyond. Students also have the opportunity to connect with an unlimited number of industry professionals who can serve as mentors.
The Alfred A. Ring Distinguished Speaker Series, funded via an endowment in honor of Dr. Alfred A. Ring, brings 10-12 prominent industry professionals to campus each year to speak to and interact with UF faculty and MSRE students. Industry leaders from across the country have come to Gainesville to share their insights on the trends and transactions that are shaping the real estate industry.
Our MSRE student receive PREA student membership. This membership gives MSREs access to most of the resources on the PREA website , including the PREA Quarterly magazine, research reports, industry survey results, webinars, and videos.
The UF real estate faculty, Bergstrom Center staff, and UF Business Career Services work hard to help place our students in highly desirable positions upon graduation. Members of our elite Bergstrom Center Advisory Board and the 1,400-plus members of the Bergstrom Council and other Friends and Alumni of Real Estate also provide numerous job leads and opportunities.
An integral part of the training we provide our MSRE students is significant “hands on” experience with important software packages and market research tools, including advanced real estate applications of Excel, CCIM’s Site to do Business (STDB), CoStar, and discounted cash flow software such as ARGUS Enterprise. This training significantly enhances the ability of our graduates to make immediate contributions to their employers upon graduation.
The Bergstrom Center receives an annual grant from CoStar Group, Inc., the leading provider of commercial real estate transaction data and information in the US. The grant from CoStar provides our graduate students with extensive access to CoStar’s comprehensive property information, sales data and analytic tools. The use of CoStar Data is integrated into the Real Estate Case Studies class as well as several other classes.
Because of our reciprocity relationship with the CCIM Institute, Graduates of the Nathan S. Collier MSRE program are only required to take three of the six core courses required for the prestigious CCIM Professional designation offered by the CCIM Institute. All students can obtain membership (prior to acquiring the CCIM designation) for only $50. Members have access to online databases, industry publications, and networking opportunities through the organization’s nationwide network.
The Nathan S. Collier MSRE program is a member of the Appraisal Institute’s Master’s Degree Program. Under this program the MSRE degree satisfies all but two courses toward the MAI designation. Students will need to complete the Advanced Market Analysis and Highest and Best Use along with the Advanced Concepts and Case Studies courses. Students who are interested need to submit the Candidate for Designation Program Application for the Appraisal Institute. The ability of the MSRE to satisfy the majority of the educational requirements for the MAI designation saves MSRE students thousands of dollars in tuition/books and hundreds of classroom hours that would be needed to earn the MAI designation without the MSRE.
The Capital Markets Lab has nine Bloomberg terminals for student use, with a wide spectrum of real business applications. The Lab also features large flat screen monitors to provide broadcasts of CNBC, Bloomberg TV, and other financial news networks. Finally, a prominent stock ticker and electronic stock boards keeps students abreast of market changes with real-time information. The Bloomberg system provides coverage on every asset class, including fixed income, equities, foreign exchange, commodities and derivatives. The information spans companies, industries, markets, economies, countries and regions.
MSRE graduates are exempt from the Florida Real Estate Commission(FREC) Course I, 45-Hour Postlicensing, FREC Course II and the 60-Hour Postlicensing courses. In lieu of submitting certificates of completion for each respective state-mandated course as required for initial licensing or license renewals, MSRE licensing candidate must submit his or her official school transcript evidencing the earned graduate degree in real estate for credit toward the respective FREC courses. The candidate must still apply and be approved for licensure at each license level (sales and broker), take and pass the required state-administered exams for licensure,and pay all associated licensing, examination and other fees.
In addition to mentoring by the high-level real estate industry leaders who populate our Real Estate Advisory Board, MSRE female students also have the opportunity to connect with female MSRE alumni & female advisory board members, who are working in real estate and responsive to students’ questions about the real estate industry and job search strategies. The Real Estate Society, through the help of leading industry professionals, teaches its members about the diverse field of real estate, and in the process, creates a community of like-minded individuals who are focused on learning, creating meaningful relationships, and developing professionally.
All accepted Master of Science in Real Estate students are considered for our Private Scholarship funds. Other scholarship awards must be applied for by the applicant or student directly (Appraisal Institute, ULI, ICSC, FCI, FREC, PREA, BOE, FAMU Feeder Program, ACM, etc.).
