UF in Japan Application Checklist

Checklist Steps

Complete the following steps by the application deadline:

  • Open an application
    • Go to UF in Japan: Business Consulting and Cross-Cultural Communication and click the “Apply Now” button. Login using your GatorLink username. Select the desired term and click “Apply.”
    • You may begin filling out the Questionnaires and Signature Documents or otherwise wait until after your appointment with a Heavener School of Business International Programs advisor.
  • Schedule an meeting with an IPSA (International Program Student Ambassador):
    • Call 352-273-0151 or email International Business to make an appointment with an IPSA. This meeting will help you learn more about the program from a student’s perspective and receive tips on how to submit your application successfully.
  • Make an appointment to meet with the Heavener School of Business International Programs advisor:
    • Call 352-273-0151 or email International Business. In this meeting, you will discuss the details of the program and complete your Academic Advising Form (AAF) needed as part of your application submission process.

Non-Business Majors: Your academic advisor from your respective college must sign the Academic Advising Form to approve the courses and related equivalencies, for your major and minor, taken in this program.

Innovation Academy Students: Your Innovation Academy academic advisor must approve your participation by signing the Academic Advising Form.

To complete your application:

  • Return the completed or signed Academic Advising Form by email to UFIC and cc International Business.
  • Ensure all Questionnaires and Signature Documents are complete on the online application.
  • Pay $395 non-refundable deposit via the online application.
  • Upload a copy of your passport to the link provided to you after meeting with the International Programs advisor.
    • Your passport upload should be a color scan of the data and signature pages.
    • Your passport must be signed and valid at least six months after your expected return date.
    • Non-U.S. citizens should also upload a copy of their visa for the U.S.
    • Applicants may be withdrawn if they are unable to obtain and submit a passport by the program’s application deadline.

      Once all the documents are submitted, your application will be reviewed by the Heavener International Programs office. Please note that reviews are done on a rolling basis; therefore, it is imperative that you submit all application material and submit your application as soon as you commit to attending this program. If your application is approved, you will have additional tasks to complete prior to departure (see below).

Complete the following tasks after your application is approved.

  • UF International Center Pre-Departure Modules & Assessments: Complete the modules & assessments on your UF study abroad application online.
  • IL Application & Additional Documents: Complete IL’s online application. Instructions will be sent to you upon approval of your UF study abroad application.
    • Japan Student Visa:
      • Students holding a U.S. passport do not need a visa for summer programs lasting less than 90 days.
      • Non-US citizens should check Japan’s consulate website for visa requirements for your country of citizenship.
  • Clear Registration Holds
    • The Heavener International Programs office will register you for your UF in Japan business courses.
    • Do not register, add, drop, or change any courses without notifying the Heavener International Programs office.
  • Flight Information
    • Complete the questionnaire on your UF study abroad application online.
    • Refer to the program website for arrival and departure dates. Always double-check with the Heavener International Programs office prior to booking your flight if you are unsure about the program dates
  • Obtain Passport
    • If you do not have a passport or if it expires within six months of your return date, you must obtain a new passport.
    • Visit Travel.State.Gov for information. UF Passport Services also offers assistance; expedited service may be necessary depending on when you apply. Please allow 8-10 weeks for processing time.
    • Failure to provide a copy of your active passport by the program application deadline may result in withdrawal from the program.
      • You will need to have this passport by the application deadline. You may want to choose the Expedited Service as needed.
      • Applicants not having a copy of their active passport, by the application deadline may be withdrawn from the program.
    • Apply for scholarships

Please note that scholarships have varying requirements, deadlines and notification dates.
