Warrington Welcome Professional Development Summit

The Warrington Welcome Professional Development Summit is a one-day leadership and professional development conference for first-year business students. This event is sponsored by Warrington Welcome, Deloitte, and ALDI.

The Summit offers interactive workshops and speeches led by Heavener student organizations, industry professionals, and Deloitte employees. It is the only professional development conference focused on first-year students, giving students a unique opportunity to hear from leaders in Heavener, gain industry insights, network, and build upon highly-valued professional skills in preparation for internships and interviews.

Why attend?

  • Competency development: Attend multiple workshops focused around the eight Heavener competencies that employers desire in their employees. These workshops will provide crucial networking opportunities and provide students with resources to aid in their professional endeavors.
  • Networking: Network with more than a dozen student organizations, industry professionals, and other Heavener students through the workshops and the tabling event. By building these relationships early, students will have relationships to aid them throughout their education and in the professional sphere.
  • Exclusive workshops & speakers: Gain access to fascinating, insightful speakers and high-yield workshops that are only available through this event. These speakers include industry professionals, Warrington faculty, and student leaders from across campus.

When and where is the summit?

The Warrington Welcome Professional Development Summit will be held on February 21st, 2025 from 8:30am-3:00pm.

It will be conducted within the Reitz Union. The event application is open to all first-year students even if they have not taken Warrington Welcome.

During the event, students will also have the opportunity to attend a professional development session hosted by Deloitte or ALDI.

Student registration & information

Navigate to the student registration. Prior to the event, you will select the workshops that you would like to attend throughout the day. Review the workshop topics and presenters to find workshops that best fit your professional development needs, interests, and/or schedule.

Overall event & workshop sign-ups are on a first-come, first-serve basis and spots are limited.

You will need to verify your attendance at the event by completing the Gator Ready survey at each workshop.

Business Ethics Ambassadors- The Invisible Hand that Shapes Success

This session will guide students on a journey to discover their true values and develop purposeful leadership rooted in integrity. Florida Women in Business- Discover How Personality Shapes Workplace Success

Explore how your personality influences teamwork, problem-solving, and communication in this interactive workshop. Learn how personality dynamics shape collaboration and reflect on team experience to uncover insights about your preferred roles and strengths in a team setting. Hedging & Trading Collective- Building the Life You Desire and Deserve: Mastering Time Management, Habits, and Mindset for Success

Success in business and life isn’t just about talent—it’s about mindset, habits, and how effectively you manage your time. ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America)- Maximize Your Summer

As a freshman, learn how to optimize your summer by pursuing internships, conferences, certifications, and study abroad experiences. We will explore all the possibilities on how you can take the most advantage of your summer.

Heavener Second Year Experience- Being An Authentic Professional

Join us for an engaging workshop where you’ll redefine professionalism, explore your values, and uncover what it means to be authentically YOU in the business world. Through interactive activities, you’ll craft your own definition of an “Authentic Professional” while diving into key themes like self-awareness, influence, and accountability. You’ll reflect on your values, match them to professions, and discuss how teamwork thrives when everyone contributes. Along the way, we’ll share personal stories and practical advice to help you find your path. Latin American Women in Business- Making Your Ethnicity Your Strength

This session will help students embrace their ethnicity as a strength in professional settings. Participants will learn to incorporate their background into their “Tell me about yourself” response and elevator pitch, equipping them with the skills to craft a compelling personal narrative for interviews and career showcases.

Heavener Peer Advisors- What Courses Do I Have To Take In Order To Graduate?

By creating a three-year plan now than later, first-year Business gators can launch their professional development early on in their academic career. The Heavener Peer Advisors will introduce first-year Business gators to a variety of topics such as what we do, what classes to take and when, what professional skills to develop at a first year and more! Our activities will provide students with the opportunity to learn more about coursework requirements as well as exposure to great organizations at Heavener School of Business.

Beta Alpha Psi- Funding Your Future: Top Scholarships for Accounting and Finance Students

This session will explore a variety of funding opportunities, including merit-based, need-based, and specialized scholarships tailored to the unique needs of future accountants and financial professionals.

Heavener Leadership Challenge- Leading Through Your Values

This workshop, Personal Branding 101: Define and Develop Your Image on LinkedIn, helps attendees understand and create their personal brand. Participants will learn why personal branding is important, see examples of successful brands, and work through simple exercises to outline their own brand. The session will wrap up with tips for networking and enhancing their online presence on LinkedIn. Attendees will also have the opportunity to curate their personal brand directly on LinkedIn, gaining practical steps to make a strong impression on recruiters and peers.

Undergraduate CAP Mentors- A Look Back Through the Years

The Career and Peer (CAP) Mentors will share the professional development tips they wish they had known as underclassmen. From navigating the recruiting process to acing interviews and getting involved on campus, they’ll provide actionable advice to help students tackle each step of their college careers with confidence. Students will get hands on practice with a professional station of their choosing after the presentation: elevator pitch, resume clinic, interview tips, LinkedIn prep.

Florida Leadership Academy- Emotionally Intelligent Goal Setting

This goal-setting activity for freshmen will focus on cultivating emotional intelligence and leadership skills through four interconnected themes, all central to FLA. Participants will learn to take initiative by identifying opportunities and taking action, set and achieve high personal standards driven by an internal motivation for excellence, and inspire others by fostering enthusiasm and commitment to shared goals. By understanding the importance of goal setting and reflecting with their peers, it will set everyone up for success.

Heavener Leadership Development Program- The Shipwreck Mindset: Adapt & Lead

Discover the unique curriculum and guiding principles of the Heavener Leadership Development Program (LDP) in this engaging and interactive session. Attendees will gain insight into how LDP enhances leadership skills through hands-on activities, fosters meaningful connections, and empowers students to create measurable community impact. The session will include a discussion on the foundations of leadership, followed by an immersive activity, “LDP Shipwrecked,” designed to challenge participants to think critically and collaboratively. Through this experience, attendees will explore the Generative Partnership Model of Leadership, which highlights the importance of both leadership and followership skills in achieving shared goals. By the end of this session, participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how leadership is a collaborative process that values action, listening, and partnership.

International Programs Student Ambassadors (IPSA)- Navigating Cultures in a Business Setting

During this presentation, we will dive into the importance of intercultural competence, especially how it relates to the workplace, highlighting its role in enhancing communication, problem-solving, and adaptability; all of which are skills that make candidates more attractive to employers. Summit schedule 2025

  • 8:30am-9:00am – Check-in and networking
    Please arrive as close to 8:30am as possible. This allows for pre-event check-in, networking, and guarantees a smooth start time.
  • 9:00am-9:20am – Opening remarks

  • 9:30am-10:30am – ALDI sponsored presentation & faculty-led large groups
    Hear exclusive presentations delivered by ALDI and industry-expert, Warrington faculty that provide key insights into the professional environment.
  • 10:45am-11:30am – Breakout session 1
    Attend an engaging presentation offered by campus organizations about professional development and today’s business needs. Learn more about the organizations presenting.
  • 11:30am-12:40pm – Lunch and organization & resources fair
    Lunch will be provided for attendees. Students will have time to rotate between lunch and the fair, a tabling event featuring Warrington organizations and campus resources. This is an exclusive opportunity to network one-on-one with organization leaders and learn about what the university has to offer.
  • 12:45pm-1:30pm – Breakout session 2
    Attend an engaging presentation offered by campus organizations about professional development and today’s business needs. Learn more about the organizations presenting.
  • 1:45pm-2:45pm – Gold sponsor keynote presented by Deloitte
    Students will complete Deloitte’s Business Chemistry self-assessment prior to the workshop. Business Chemistry utilizes science to improve the art of business relationships. During this engaging keynote session, students will review their assessment results, network with Deloitte professionals, and learn engaging ways to implement their working styles identified through the assessment.
