Professional Conduct

As a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Business Career Services (BCS) abides by the guidelines of professional standards and ethics outlined by NACE. The University of Florida Warrington College of Business expects our students and alumni to adhere to the highest level of professional conduct when participating in on-campus interviewing activities. Students are held accountable for inappropriate or unethical behavior. Employers participating in on-campus recruiting activities at UF are also expected to abide by the same ethical principles. We encourage all employers to use the Principles for Ethical Professional Practice (NACE) as a guide. Companies and positions that do not comply with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) guidelines or discriminate against any group will be rejected.

Internship & Job Postings

All internship and job postings on HIREWarrington must contain accurate information concerning the position(s) being advertised. BCS reserves the right to deny the approval of postings that are proven to be fraudulent or misleading in their description to potential candidates. We also reserve the right to reject postings that require a financial investment by candidates, or positions that may involve unreasonable risks to candidates or conflict with the NACE Principles for Ethical Professional Practice. HIREWarrington postings should not be used to solicit business of any kind. All postings will be reviewed by a BCS staff member and approved or rejected within 3 to 5 business days of being submitted via HIREWarrington by the employer. BCS reserves the right to reject postings that do not align with our business majors and degree programs (i.e. architects, pharmacists, engineers, etc.).

Commission-only Employment

Commission-only opportunities will be approved on a case-by-case basis. The position description should clearly state the opportunity is commission-only. BCS staff reserves the right to update any postings to add the following disclaimer for commission-only position descriptions before approving: “Please note: This opportunity is commission only.”

Unpaid Internships or Jobs

Unpaid jobs or internships will be approved on a case-by-case basis. The position description should clearly state the opportunity is unpaid. BCS staff reserves the right to update any postings to add the following disclaimer for unpaid position descriptions before approving: “Please note: This opportunity is unpaid.”

Third-party Recruiters or Staffing Firms

Third-party recruiter or staffing firm opportunities will be approved on a case-by-case basis. The position description should clearly state the opportunity is being posted by a third-party recruiter or staffing firm. BCS staff reserves the right to update any postings to add the following disclaimer for third-party or staffing firm position descriptions before approving: “Please note: This opportunity is posted by a third-party recruiter or staffing firm.”

Independent Contractor (1099)

Independent contractor opportunities will be approved on a case-by-case basis. The position description should clearly state the opportunity is independent contractor based. BCS staff reserves the right to update any postings to add the following disclaimer for independent contractor position descriptions before approving: “Please note: This opportunity is independent contractor based.”

Multi-level or “Pyramid” Employers

Employers offering employment opportunities based on a multi-level or “pyramid” type of networking structure requiring or encouraging the recruitment of others who recruit others to sell products and services are not permitted to post positions on HIREWarrington, recruit on-campus or attend career fairs. BCS staff reserves the right to reject employer accounts, internships, and jobs that offer multi-level or “pyramid” opportunities.

Upfront Product Purchase

Employers offering opportunities requiring prospective employees to purchase products or services upfront are not permitted to post positions on HIREWarrington, recruit on-campus or attend career fairs. BCS staff reserves the right to reject employer accounts, internships, and job postings that require candidates to purchase products or services upfront.

Application Fees for Candidates

Recruitment for positions requiring monetary outlay by candidates for equipment, training, or licensure is strongly discouraged. If these types of fees are involved, this information must be explicitly included in the position description. The required information includes fees for federal and state licensing requirements (i.e., real estate, securities, etc.). BCS staff reserves the right to reject postings that do not conform to these guidelines.

Door-to-door Sales

Employers offering opportunities that require students to conduct door-to-door sales are not permitted to post positions on HIREWarrington, recruit on-campus or attend career fairs. BCS staff reserves the right to reject employer accounts, internships, and jobs that require students to conduct door-to-door sales.

Private Individual or Residence

Employers associated with a private individual and/or residence are not permitted to post positions on HIREWarrington, recruit on-campus or attend career fairs. Examples include, but are not limited to babysitting, gardening, driving, house cleaning, tutoring, moving, painting, maintenance, elder care, pet sitting, etc.
