In this discussion, members will confront black-related stereotypes, explore how stereotyping impacts the lives of black people, and discuss how they can make changes to reduce overgeneralizations, unfair assumptions, and unsupported judgments about black people.

In this discussion, we’ll learn about barriers Black people face in school, the workplace as well as outside the workplace. We’ll also discuss some things that others can do as supportive allies.

Black History Month Celebration

During the Black History Month, BBSA celebrated the achievements of African Americans and recognized their role in the history of the United States.

Martin Luther King Day of Service

On this day, BBSA members celebrated the life and legacy of the Civil Rights leader Dr. King by volunteering for initiatives that improved the environment in the Gainesville community.

PK Yonge Developmental School Outreach

BBSA members interacted with PK Yonge Developmental School students and facilitated sessions where the students learned about:

  • FICO Credit Score, how it impacts their financial wellness and how to improve it.
  • Stocks, how to invest through stocks, portfolio diversification.

D&I Conference BBSA Session

During this session, participants discussed implicit bias within the context of race, how it impacts the Black community as well as how to become an ally for Black people.

Black Culture Round Table Discussions

The Black culture round table discussions were virtual meetings Zoom where BBSA members discussed key topics such as stereotypes, Black music and culture.
