Welcome to the Heavener School of Business at the University of Florida! As your Director of Advising I am here to help guide you on a personal path to success. Things to consider as you get underway are:
- Ways to get involved in the campus, local and even global communities (leadership, clubs, and organizations, etc.)
- Academic requirements and opportunities (undergraduate majors, minors, graduate school)
- International studies (study abroad, foreign language studies, elective courses)
- Career development opportunities (internships, networking, resume, interviewing skills)
I look forward to getting to know you and assisting you during your time here at UF and beyond. To help you get to know me a little bit better here is a brief synopsis of my past educational experiences.
I began my college experience in the Swamp in the fall of 1990 not sure what I wanted to major in. “Back in the day” students were classified as undecided until the middle of their junior year while taking general education courses and prerequisites for potential majors. During that time, I discovered an affinity for my Sociology classes and enjoyed research and studying societal changes specific to older populations. Upon graduation in summer 1994, I thought about graduate school in Sociology. While deciding if that was the path I wanted to take, I began working at the Graduate Records Office here at UF. That is when I discovered the Graduate Program in Student Personnel in Higher Education. With a sociological background and an interest in academic policy, I decided to continue my graduate studies in the College of Education. During my graduate years, I interned at Indian River Community College. After my master’s degree was conferred, I continued working as an advisor at IRCC. I then moved on to Santa Fe Community College as a College Preparatory Advisor. I came to the Heavener School of Business as an Undergraduate Advisor in December of 2000. During the next six years, I worked with new students, transfer students, international students, Freshman Preview, Transfer Orientation, Probation, teaching Warrington Welcome (First Year Florida) and was a member of the University Student Conduct Committee.
I returned to the Heavener School of Business as an advisor in August 2009 after a three-year hiatus to stay home with my children. It is great to be back in the Swamp!
