Academic Advising

Heavener School of Business advisors can help you figure out your degree requirements and minor requirements, change your major, discuss dropping a course, choose your classes, and provide you with valuable career advice. We’ve even created an advising syllabus which outlines our mission, expectations, and activities that you should undertake from freshman to senior year.

For specific guidance on the Heavener School’s COVID-19 action plan, please see the For Students page of the Warrington and COVID-19 website.

In alignment with the UF response to the coronavirus, all advising will be accessed/delivered in a virtual format until further notice. However, we are still here to help! In fact, there are multiple ways to connect with an Academic & Career Advisor:

  • Virtual drop-in advising: Use this method to have a same-day, 5-10 minute virtual meeting (via Zoom) with an Academic & Career Advisor.
    • Possible topics include: questions about your degree or minor requirements, one-semester academic plans, discuss dropping a course, choosing your classes, or assistance with registration
  • Virtual advising appointment: Use this method to have a 30 minute virtual meeting (via Zoom) with an Academic & Career Advisor. During peak times (e.g., drop/add) appointments are only available for students on probation or students who want to change into a major within the Heavener School of Business.
  • Email advising: Send us an email to receive specific feedback related to your inquiry within 1-2 business days without having to schedule a meeting with an Academic & Career Advisor.
  • Group advising information sessions: Topic-specific sessions are scheduled to review policies and processes of many commonly requested information items.
  • Heavener peer advising: Exclusively for first-year business students

Virtual Drop-In Advising

If you need to speak with an Academic & Career Advisor same-day, your best option is to do a virtual drop-in advising session. Virtual drop-in sessions are 5-10 minute long meetings held via Zoom with you and one of the Academic & Career Advisors on-call at the time of your appointment (you do not choose your Advisor). During peak traffic periods (drop/add week), we offer virtual drop-in advising Monday – Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. During non-peak traffic periods we offer virtual drop-in advising Monday – Thursday from 10 AM to 4 PM. You can sign up to see the available time slots for today.

Follow these instructions on how to set up your UF Zoom account in preparation for your appointment.

Virtual Advising Appointments

If you would like to setup a virtual advising appointment (and if you are on probation or are a non-business major interested in changing your major to business) with an Academic & Career Advisor, please call us at (352) 273-0165.

Follow these instructions on how to set up your UF Zoom account in preparation for your appointment.

Email Advising

To receive specific information within 1-2 business days without having to schedule a meeting with an Academic & Career Advisor, please email advising questions to our advising inbox. Be sure to use your GatorLink email address, include your UFID in your message, and provide the advisor with your specific questions and any necessary context information. Our goal is to answer all emails within 2 business days, however, there may be a delay given the unique set of circumstances which we are all confronting. If your question(s) cannot be adequately resolved via email, an advisor will contact you to setup a virtual advising session (via Zoom). We look forward to assisting you with your academic and career questions during this time of uncertainty.

Group Advising

Periodically throughout the semester, we will offer group advising sessions on specific advising topics. Check back to see the schedule each term and sign up for a session. Examples include:
