Heavener School of Business advisors can help you figure out your degree requirements, change your major, drop a course, choose your classes, and provide you with valuable career advice. We’ve even created an advising syllabus which outlines our mission, expectations, and activities that you should undertake from freshman to senior year.
Do you have a quick question or have a form that needs to be signed? Students can have 5-10 minutes with an advisor on a walk-in basis (first-come, first-serve). Walk-in times are subject to change so be sure to check the schedule below. To see an advisor, please sign in at the front desk in 333 Heavener Hall.
Come in early in the day to avoid a long wait as a walk-in during peak times. We will ensure that all students who have “signed in” are seen before we leave for the day. To be able to do this during very busy periods, we may close the sign-in list early. At certain times of the year, a large number of students may attempt to receive academic advisement at the same time.
There are no walk-in hours on Fridays except during advance registration and drop/add week.
Examples of walk-in advising topics:
- Drop/add class
- Minor form approval
- Forms that need an advisors signature
- Assistance with course scheduling for the semester
- Issues with registration
- Tracking hold

Appointments are used for any questions, concerns, or discussion you’d like to have with an advisor that will last longer than five minutes.
Thirty minute individual advising sessions are available by appointment Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm and can be scheduled up to one week in advance. To make an appointment, please do not email your advisor; contact our front desk at (352) 273-0165.
Appointments tend to get booked very quickly, so make an appointment early, preferably before advance registration. Review registration dates listed on the Registrar’s website. Note that appointments may be very limited during peak times such as drop/add and advance registration.
Examples of appointments:

Email general and policy questions to our advising inbox. Be sure to use your GatorLink email address and include your UFID in your message. We strive to answer all emails within 2-3 business days. However, there might be a delay in response during peak times.
Please note that we cannot remove holds, change majors, or make appointments via email. For time sensitive request, please do not email, but come in to the office for walk-in advising or schedule an appointment if the issue will take longer than 5-10 minutes.
Florida Virtual Campus
Florida Virtual Campus is Florida’s official online student advising system. From their website, you can access your degree audit, student transcript, and the convenient, online transient student form (listed under “Transfer Services”).
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I be advised over the phone? How about via email?
You must see an advisor in person to receive individual academic advisement. Federal privacy laws prevent an academic advisor from discussing your academic record over the phone. Non-individual specific questions, such as questions of policy, may be answered via email if you contact us using your GatorLink account.
- How can I see an advisor in person?
You can speak with an academic advisor during Walk-In Advising hours (see schedule above), or you can make a one-on-one 30 minute appointment. Walk-in advising is limited to brief policy-related questions, approval of forms and other minor issues. More in depth issues, such as long range academic planning, career counseling, dual degree, or academic probation, should be addressed in a one-on-one, 30 minute appointment with an advisor. You can contact our front desk to schedule your appointment a week in advance.
