All teams must submit the online intent to compete form by 11:59 pm on December 15 to be eligible for the competition. Basic information is required and can be updated as needed.

Friday, January 8, 2016

Spring Registration Deadline to enroll in the Business Plan Lab
All UF students are eligible to enroll in (or just sit in on) ENT 4934/ ENT 6930, the Business Plan Lab. This is a semester-long, two credit course offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The respective classes meet every Tuesday during periods 11 – E1. Priority seating will be given to those registered for the course, but the weekly lab is open to all business plan competition participants.

Orientation Meeting & Mixer

5:15pm - Business Plan Mixer (optional)
Location: Reitz Union Grand Ball Room
We will host a mixer prior to the Orientation Meeting for students participating in the business plan competition and those looking to join a team. Pizza and drinks will be provided. Be ready to promote your business concept or market yourself to potential new team members. Business concept sheets and resumes are suggested. This Mixer is optional; however, it will be a great way to network with the other teams and to find people who have expertise in areas (marketing, accounting, finance, technical skills) that you may be missing.

6:15-8:10pm – Mandatory Orientation Meeting & first Business Plan Lab
Location: Reitz Union Grand Ball Room
At least one member from each team is required to attend the orientation meeting, though it is recommended that all team members attend. The second half of the orientation meeting is also the first class meeting of the Business Plan Lab, where the following topics will be touched upon:

  • Understanding the Logic of the Plan
  • Understanding Your Audience
  • Organizing Your Effort and Your Time
  • Overcoming Flaws in Plans
  • Ideation and Concept Creation
  • Business Concept Selection and Team Formation
  • Writing Up the Business Concept and Ensuring All the Value-Creating Components

A note to distance education students:
Even though you are not located in Gainesville, we still require two hard copies be mailed to CEI in addition to submitting the electronic version. Please send two copies of your draft plan to the address listed below. The package must be postmarked on or before Friday, March 20th and we must receive the package by Wednesday, March 25th.

Semi-Finals: Top Sixteen Teams Present
Sixteen semi-finalists will present to judges between 12pm – 5pm. A reception for all teams participating in the competition will follow to announce the Final Four, who will present again the following day. (Times are tentative.)

Friday, April 22, 2016

Finals: Top Four Teams Present
The top four teams will present to judges between 2:00pm – 5:00pm. A celebratory awards banquet will follow to announce the winners. Successful high profile venture capitalists and entrepreneurs will judge the semifinals and finals. Please refer to the Overview and Judging section for competition guidelines. (Times are tentative.)
