This year, students from the William R. Hough Master of Science in Finance Program competed in seven case competitions across the nation. From stock pitch competitions to real estate debt case competitions, the students represented the University of Florida with excellence, earning several national recognitions:

  • USF Stock Pitch Competition: 3rd Place
  • Point72 Case Competition: Top 20 out of 300 teams
  • University of Michigan Stock Pitch Competition: Semi-finalist

“It was an honor to represent UF in a highly competitive environment amongst some of the sharpest student investors in the country,” Amay Mehta (BSBA ‘27, MSF ‘28) said. “These case competition successes reflect the strong analytical rigor and professional communication skills of MSF students. These competitions often include teams from Ivy League universities and other top schools globally, so having UF MSF represented at that level shows the quality of training and preparation within the program.”

The USF Stock Pitch Competition marked one MSF team’s first placement in over a year. That competition, in particular, had about 130 individual team applicants, with only 23 making it to the final stage. In the competition, Sophia Miele (BSBA ‘26, MSF ‘27), Catherine McGarry (BSBA ‘26, MSF ‘27) and Daniel Khani (BSBA ‘26, MSF ‘27) created an investment thesis and delivered a presentation analyzing a company’s financial valuation, risks and growth catalysts.

“Being exposed to the investing and stock pitching side of things, which is more buy-side oriented work, was a really fun and rewarding experience,” Miele said. “Competitions like these push us to think critically, defend our ideas under pressure and continue developing both technically and professionally.”

Another team of MSF students also participated in the Point 72 Case Competition, hosted by one of the world’s largest hedge funds. Mehta, Kaushal Naidu (MSF ‘28) and Nguyen Khang Do (BSBA ‘28) pitched a long thesis on Li Auto and created a slide deck and valuation model for the initial submission. As the competition continued, the team conducted further research and analysis to refine their thesis, strengthen their financial assumptions and develop measurable claims.

A separate group of MSF students, Ethan Ohana (MSF ’26), William Wu (MSF ’26), Sophia Mohring (MSF ’28), Adam Tahiri (MSF ’28) and Khani, were also invited to participate in the CREFC Real Estate Debt Case Competition; only 10 university teams were personally selected for the competition.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to represent UF in such a competitive setting and to learn from both our peers and industry professionals,” Mehta said. “Experiences like this go beyond the classroom and play a major role in developing practical investing skills, from research and analysis to communication under pressure. We look forward to continuing to build on this experience and applying what we have learned in future opportunities.”
