On-Campus Courses & Curriculum

The curriculum consists of 32 credit hours (22 core credits and 10 elective credits) designed to provide students with a solid business foundation. In Fall/Spring, courses are taught in 8-week modules. In Summer A/B courses are taught in 6 weeks.

  • The usual course load per module is 6 credits (3 classes).
  • Students may take up to 7 or 8 credits per module. Most graduate business courses are worth 2 credits each.

International students: if you plan to graduate in a summer term, you must meet with your program advisor far in advance to ensure you will meet F-1 final term registration requirements.

*Career Seminar – Students seeking full-time employment post-MSM are highly encouraged to enroll in the online MSM Career Seminar Course. This course is designed to give MSM students the tools and support needed to secure an internship and/or full-time job prior to their graduation from the program. The career seminar is a non-credit bearing course.

Elective Courses

10 Credits

  • Choose business electives from a variety of subject areas such as entrepreneurship, finance, information systems & operations management, international business, and real estate. All courses on the MSM course schedule have been approved to count as electives.
  • Study abroad (optional).
  • Take graduate-level, non-business electives (up to 9 credits).

MBA Track Electives

You must take two specific electives if you anticipate applying to and completing one of the following MBA programs within 7 years of earning your MSM degree:

  • Full Time Business Majors or
  • Weekend Part-Time One Year/ Online One Year (part-time to accommodate jobs)

The two required electives are:

  • FIN 5439 Capital Structure & Risk Management (Finance II) (prerequisite FIN 5437)
  • QMB 6358 Statistical Analysis for Managerial Decisions (Statistics II) (prerequisite QMB 5304)

The MBA eligibility and admissions requirements are separate and different than the MSM program’s requirements. Visit the MBA website for more information on admissions requirements and program options or schedule an appointment.

Certificates

Students are allowed to take up to 9 graduate-level credits outside of the Warrington College of Business. Some students chose to pursue UF Graduate Certificates. Refer to the UF Graduate School for a full list of Graduate Certificates.

Certificate in Tourism and Hospitality Business Management

The Certificate in Tourism and Hospitality Business Management is jointly offered by the Hough Graduate School of Business and the UF Eric Friedheim Tourism Institute.

To earn this certificate, MSM students must complete a total of 10 credits (5 courses). Four of the 10 credits are MSM core courses (MAN 5246 and MAN 5502) and the remaining 6 credits are completed from a selection of courses.
