Janice Carrillo, Judy A. Warrington Professor in Business, has been appointed Associate Dean of Faculty and Director of the Hough Graduate School of Business at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business.

In her new role, Carrillo supervises Warrington’s faculty, including tenure and promotion and post-tenure review, research center activities, as well as all of the Hough Graduate School programs, including the MBA, specialized master’s, Ph.D. and DBA degrees.

Carrillo’s previous combined leadership as Associate Dean for Hough Specialized Master’s Programs, Director of the Master of Science in Business Analytics and Director of the Master of Science in Information Systems and Operations Management make her an excellent fit to lead Warrington’s graduate programs into the future of business education and advancing faculty excellence.

“Janice brings a deep understanding of our graduate programs, our faculty and the evolving needs of business education,” said Gary McGill, Warrington’s interim dean. “Her leadership will be instrumental in building on the strength of our graduate programs and preparing the college to meet the opportunities and challenges ahead.”

Carrillo came to Warrington in 2000 as an assistant professor in the Information Systems and Operations Management Department. She later was promoted to associate professor in 2006 and professor in 2020, holding the Judy A. Warrington Professorship.

Under her leadership, she updated the MS-ISOM program to offer an additional AI-focused concentration in Business Analytics, in addition to the existing concentrations in Data Science, Supply Chain Management and Information Technology. Carrillo oversaw the update of the Business Analytics track to its own degree program, the Master of Science in Business Analytics, recognizing the need for a STEM-designated program that prepares students to bridge business needs and analytics by combining functional business knowledge, data and analytics skills to support data-driven decision-making.

“One of the central themes of my research has been understanding how technology transforms organizations and how we can best enable people to use it effectively,” Carrillo said. “In this new role, I’m excited to build on that work by continuing to modernize our graduate programs and preparing our students and faculty to thrive in increasingly AI- and technology-enabled organizations. That means supporting faculty in producing impactful research, while ensuring that every student has access to meaningful courses, experiences, and extracurricular opportunities that prepare them for the future.”

As a scholar, her research focuses on technology management, e-commerce, supply chain management, sustainability, and AI with an emphasis on how organizations adopt and leverage emerging technology. Knowledge management has also emerged as an important thread connecting Carrillo’s research interests. Because technology alone rarely determines whether an innovation succeeds, organizations must also develop the knowledge and capabilities necessary to use new technologies effectively and align employees at different levels of the organization. This perspective has become particularly relevant with the rapid diffusion of AI.

Carrillo has been widely published in leading academic journals like Management Science, Production and Operations Management and Decision Sciences. She serves as the Department Editor for Decision Sciences and as a Senior Editor of Production and Operations Management.

Carrillo earned her Ph.D. in Operations Management and her MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology and her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of California – Irvine.
