Dr. Mahendrarajah Nimalendran (Nimal) is the John H. and Mary Lou Dasburg Chair and Professor of Finance at the Warrington College of Business, University of Florida. Nimal has taught at the University of Florida since 1990, and he was a Visiting Academic Scholar at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from August 2004 to December 2005. He earned his Ph.D. in finance from the University of Michigan and his undergraduate degree in Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Nimal’s area of expertise is market microstructure, and he served as an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Markets. His research has been published in leading finance and economics journals including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and the Journal of Econometrics. His recent research has focused on the microstructure of cryptocurrency and derivative markets, high-frequency trading, and applications of machine learning and AI in finance. While at the SEC, Nimal worked on projects involving market regulation, market structures and execution quality, valuation of employee stock options, and issues related to disclosure of information.
