PURC Workshop: Practicing Leadership in a Political Environment
April 27, 2010
Turks & Caicos Islands
How can a regulatory agency thrive in a politically charged environment? That was the question addressed at this PURC leadership workshop for the Telecommunications Commission of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Participants from the commission and operators first studied how to assess their organization’s needs, strengths, and weaknesses, and how to identify their roles in developing the organization. They also studied the important traits and practices of leading an organization, considering how persons with formal authority can provide leadership, as well as those without formal authority.
In addition, the 25 participants examined different leadership styles and learned when their personal style is a strength and when it can be a weakness, as well as how to leverage the leadership talents of others. Finally each participant developed a leadership action plan. The workshop was delivered by PURC Director Mark Jamison and by PURC Assistant Director Araceli Castañeda.
