Global Business Society

A global-minded community that means business

Whether you’re an incoming exchange student spending a semester at UF or a Global Gator Guide eager to connect across cultures, the Global Business Society (GBS) is your gateway to international engagement and professional growth.

GBS brings together local UF and international students from Asia, Europe, Australia, South America and beyond to foster a vibrant, globally connected community. Through interactive meetings, networking events, professional development workshops and cultural exchanges, members build the intercultural competencies and global mindset essential for success in today’s international workforce.

We provide UF students with the tools and opportunities to develop professionally and expand their horizons abroad, while supporting exchange students with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate and succeed in the American business environment. At GBS, we learn from one another, grow together and prepare to thrive — wherever in the world our paths may lead.

What is Global Business Society?

GBS is a student-led organization at the University of Florida dedicated to building meaningful connections across borders. Our mission is simple: create a space where cultural exchange, professional development and global awareness intersect.

Whether it’s preparing members for careers in international business, introducing exchange students to UF’s campus culture or strengthening friendships across continents, GBS is more than a club — it’s a community that opens doors to the world.

Global Business Society is:

“Everyone I knew who had gone on exchange to UF strongly recommended joining GBS. So when I finally arrived here, I knew there was no reason not to get involved. GBS is the perfect opportunity to meet both UF students and fellow exchange students — so of course, I had to be part of it!”

Become a Global Gator Guide

The Global Gator Guide program is an award-winning initiative within the Global Business Society at the University of Florida.

The program pairs UF students with incoming exchange students to support their transition to campus life. Its primary goal is to foster meaningful and lasting connections between UF students and international business students as they learn and grow together at the university.

Being a Global Gator Guide is more than just mentorship—it’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in intercultural exchange without leaving Gainesville. By participating, you will:

  • Support exchange students as they adjust to life at UF and in the U.S.
  • Gain firsthand insight into another culture, building global awareness and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Form friendships across borders that can last a lifetime.
  • Strengthen your professional and personal network through international connections.

For students interested in studying abroad, the Global Gator Guide program is an especially valuable resource. It allows you to connect with peers from the very countries you may one day study in, giving you cultural insight and friendships before you go abroad. At its heart, the Global Gator Guide program is about mutual growth, support and creating a truly global community at UF.

Global Gator Guide responsibilities

The Global Gator Guide Program is highly involved program that requires committed members in order to ensure the program runs smoothly and allows for the best experience possible for all members. Our guide responsibilities include:

  • Tuesday commitment at 6:30 p.m.
  • Attend all mandatory Global Business Society events and excursions.
  • Maintain regular contact with your assigned exchange student.
  • Regularly check on your points in order to ensure your standing in the organization.
  • Attend as many possible GBS social events throughout the semester.

Global Gator Guide application process

To become a Global Gator Guide, interested students must complete an application process during the semester prior to the one in which they wish to participate. Here’s how to apply:

  1. Apply to the program (Check back in October for next semester’s application): Applications open in February for the fall term and October for the spring term.
  2. Check your email: Check to confirm if you made it through the first round and schedule an interview.
  3. Attend the interview: Be sure to arrive 10 minutes early and bring your resume. Business professional attire is required.
  4. Participate in training: If chosen as a guide, you’ll be invited to orientation at the end of the semester. At this point, you are in our program for the following semester, so this will serve as an introduction to our academic advisor, the executive board and other students who will be guides with you.

“I knew I wanted to be part of an organization that focused on working with exchange students and helping make their experience at UF memorable. When I learned that GBS is within the business school and works directly with exchange students, I saw it as the perfect opportunity for me. In my first week in GBS, I felt immediately welcomed by the exchange students, Gator Guides and executive board, which confirmed that I had made the right choice.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone can become a General Member by attending our General Body Meetings, which are open to everyone. These meetings are held every other Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Heavener 160. General Members are welcome to participate in all GBS events and activities.

Gator Guides are formally paired with an exchange student for the semester. They play a more active role in the organization and are expected to attend:

  • General Body Meetings
  • GBS-hosted events
  • Gator Guide Committee Meetings

Applications to be a Gator Guide open toward the end of the semester prior to the one you’re applying for.

GBS social events are optional activities designed to help members explore Gainesville — and sometimes even other parts of Florida — while spending quality time together outside of our mandatory meetings. These events aren’t required, but they’re a great way to build stronger friendships, experience more of what Florida has to offer and earn extra points along the way.

In addition to attending GBS-hosted events, members can earn up to two extra points per month by completing the point submission form on our website. To qualify, simply provide proof of hanging out with your exchange student pairing or spending time with other GBS members outside of official events. It’s our way of encouraging connections that go beyond the classroom and formal meetings.
