MSRE Program Accepting Applications

Do you know someone who wants to further their skills in the commercial real estate industry? We are currently accepting applications for the next class of MSRE students. The program begins on July 2nd and now features an international study tour to Chile, in addition to a comprehensive set of core real estate courses and a broad array of finance, entrepreneurship, development, building construction, and urban and regional planning electives. Apply online or email Pam DeMichele (pam.demichele at for more information.

Combined Degree Program Added

The Nathan S. Collier Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) Combined Degree Program is designed for highly qualified and motivated undergraduate students seeking to complete both an undergraduate and master degree in four years. Admission to the MSRE Combined Degree Program is based on a number of factors including the applicant's GMAT score and academic record. Most combined degree students entered the University of Florida with a significant number of college credits. With permission from their undergraduate departments, the combined degree program allows students to use 12 hours of graduate coursework toward both their undergraduate and MSRE degree. Visit our MSRE Combined Degree website for details.

MSRE Program Now Part of Appraisal Institute Program

The MSRE program was recently approved as a participating university in the Appraisal Institute's (AI) Master's Degree Program. The AI program allows graduates of a participating program to meet the AI education requirements for the MAI designation by passing pre-approved courses administered by participating universities. The Appraisal Institute will allow UF MSRE students to receive credit for eleven of the AI required courses. Students would only be required to take two advanced level courses along with the USPAP course. In addition to course credits, MSRE students are eligible to become associate members of the Appraisal Institute. More information on the program can be obtained on the AI website.

MSRE International Study Tour Update

As noted in the last edition of The Pinnacle, we've added an international study tour to the MSRE program. The first trip will be to Santiago, Chile this summer. The trip is designed to introduce students to global business practices, foreign markets and regional cultural differences. Students will gain practical first-hand experiences through visiting with various businesses, institutions and organizations in Santiago. The visits will consist of meetings, tours and presentations on relevant topics with those that are doing business in and with Chile. In addition, there will be a historical, cultural and tourism component to provide a more complete picture of life and business in Santiago and surrounding areas. The experience obtained from the study program will enable students to better understand and manage international business relationships, operations, investment, and risk along with gaining key insights into culture and economic activity in Chile and South America.

The students, working in groups, will be tasked with representing an institutional U.S. real estate investor that is looking to diversify into the Chilean market. A significant component of the trip will be to underwrite the risk of investing in Chilean commercial real estate, generally, and the selected property/project in particular. The students will be required to do specific research prior to the trip that will better enable them to understand Chile, Santiago, and the cultural and political forces that effect real estate and investment in the country. Within a week of returning to the States, the student groups will present their investment valuation and recommendation to an "investment committee" consisting of Bergstrom Center faculty and members of the Bergstrom Center Real Estate Advisory Board.

Q4 2011 Survey of Emerging Market Conditions Results
