2014 Trends & Strategies Conference
The Bergstrom Center for Real Estate Studies celebrated its largest conference ever on Feb. 27-28, at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. More than 440 guests heard from top industry leaders and networked with guests from all over the state.

Trends Conference Highlights 2014
Jorge Perez Inducted to the Bergstrom Center Hall of Fame at 2014 Trends Conference
This year, the Bergstrom Center welcomed Jorge Perez, Chairman, CEO & Founder of the Related Group, to the growing list of distinguished individuals who have helped transform the real estate industry in a positive way. Mr. Perez has been at the forefront of South Florida’s urban evolution often being the first developer to enter merging or undiscovered neighborhoods.
Mr. Perez has refined South Florida’s landscape by building and managing more than 80,000 apartments and condominium residences. In August 2005, TIME Magazine named Mr. Perez one of the 25 most influential Hispanics in the United States, and has made the cover of Forbes twice.
John Crossman of Crossman and Company named UF Honorary Alumnus
Long-time Bergstrom Center supporter John Crossman of Crossman and Company of Orlando was named a UF Honorary Alumnus.
The announcement was made at the Trends Conference by Mr. Kelley A. Bergstrom and Ms. Alison Law from the Warrington College of Business Administration. Only 180 other people hold this distinction, which is granted the by the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Bergstrom Center welcomes new Assistant Director
Nikki Wagner was recently named the new Assistant Director of the Bergstrom Center. Wagner, who has a background in nonprofit development and event planning, will be responsible for branding the center, coordinating events and assisting in the administration of the Center. Prior to joining the Bergstrom Center, Wagner was the Director of Development for Leadership and Affinity Groups at the United Way of North Central Florida.
“I am thrilled to become a part of the Bergstrom Center for Real Estate Studies at the University of Florida. I look forward to spreading our message throughout the region and working with our committed advisory board and council,” says Wagner.

UF Hosts Critical Issues in Real Estate Symposium in partnership with FSU

UF is hosting this annual academic symposium in partnership with Florida State University. This invitation-only symposium assembles 40 leading researchers studying commercial real estate from around the world. Participants will present cutting-edge academic research, and have the opportunity to discuss cases with esteemed academics.

Nathan S. Collier MSRE students pitch projects to real-world investors
Nick Banks of Front Street Commercial Real Estate Group, Andy Hogshead of Collier Companies and Keith Crutcher of Sooner Management were invited to judge student presentations in Dr. Kent Malone’s Real Estate Development class at UF’s Bergstrom Center for Real Estate Studies in February. The winning team was a project called Kentro Downtown presented by Kevin Jund, Jon Sieg, Chris Johnston, and Humphrey Piccus. Their project was a small mixed use project in downtown Gainesville that included an urban grocery component as well as about 45 boutique residential units.
