Everything You Need to Know about Grammar and Punctuation
When UF launched the first-ever online MBA program in 1999, our students begged for an easy-to-use, brief, comprehensive guide to grammar and punctuation. After searching unsuccessfully for a suitable guide, including three guides the students rejected as too lengthy, too technical, or too confusing, Jane Douglas created her own guide, "Grammar Made (Relatively) Painless," and posted it online for successive years of cohorts.
Years later, Douglas received an email from an IT specialist at IBM's Innovation Center, asking permission for IBM to use her "Grammar Made Painless" as the corporation's in-house style guide. IBM's Eugenia Caldwell explained that, after a lengthy search, she had found no guide as comprehensive, accessible, and brief. This PDF features the uses and abuses of grammatical subjects.
