Coaching Students to Case Competition Success
Dr. Sean Limon coaches both undergraduate and graduate business case competition teams to victories in both regional, national, and international success. In the past three years, the Heavener School of Business undergraduates have competed in Canada, Spain, Holland, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong in competition categories including strategy, marketing, non-profit and entrepreneurship. In these competitions, undergraduate teams have placed second, third, and fourth.
In addition, the MBA case competition teams have competed in the categories of strategy, finance, and ethics in regional and national challenges. In regional challenges, Dr. Limon has coached the MBA teams to regional victories in the University of South Florida competition five of the last eight years, winning top honors from 2011-2014. In addition, MBA teams have won the SEC Cup twice, dominating competition for both 2013 and 2014. This year, the MBA case competition team also won the Ryder Competition.
His strategies for coaching both undergraduate and graduate teams to their strings of victories, Dr. Limon noted, were simple: “Put together a good team, and let them know the expectations,” he says. “And, of course, practice, practice, practice.”
