Freshman Business Leadership Workshop Series

Your Future Starts Here…

This annual event is a half-day leadership and professional development conference for 100 first-year business students sponsored by Warrington Welcome and Deloitte. This is an opportunity to attend different workshops hosted by organizations in Heavener and meet many first-year students!

The event will consist of Deloitte starting us off with their Business Chemistry presentation, followed by three sessions you will be allowed to select, lunch, and a student organization and programs networking fair. Business professional attire is required.

You must be a freshman in order to be eligible to apply. Applications are due October 8th, at 11:59 pm.

When and where is the event?

The event this year will take place on October 25th, 2019 from 10:30 AM until 3:00 PM at Heavener Hall.

Emotional Intelligence
Actualize focuses on developing emotional intelligence and soft skills in students. Join us to learn about Self-Awareness, the first competency of emotional intelligence and the steppingstone to successful leadership! We will have a fun, interactive session to develop Self-Awareness skills.

Undergraduate Consulting Club (UCC)

Market Sizer
The Undergraduate Consulting Club will have you jump into a consulting-focused activity as you learn what this industry is about and identify the next steps you can take to further explore your consulting interests. Through this student-led activity, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to logically approach business questions by making recommendations based on critical thinking. You will also have the opportunity to discover the importance of creativity within consulting through self-reflection on your approach to the activity. Even for those students whose interest is not sparked through consulting, the critical thinking framework taught within this session is transferable to many areas, such as finance, law, marketing, and entrepreneurship.

Diversity Banking & Securities (DBS)

Diversity in Banking
Diversity in Banking & Securities is formed by a group of students in the M.S. Finance program and is meant to be a resource for UF students trying to break into front-office, institutional finance careers. Our team is composed of individuals who have worked firms such as Evercore, JPMorgan, Citi, and Wells Fargo. We will be presenting on careers in Investment Banking, and the different resources available for you as business students at UF.

Business Ethics Ambassador’s (BEAs)

Presentation of an Ethical Dilemma
The Business Ethics Ambassadors will be presenting on what ethics means in the business world that we are all seeking to be a part of! We will discuss what an ethical dilemma is and what to do when you face one in your future. We will also work as a group to analyze a real-life case of an ethical dilemma in the workplace. For those who are interested in ethics in business, there are multiple further opportunities we will cover including the opportunity to form a team and compete to win money in the Freshmen Business Ethics Case Competition hosted by the BEAs!

Professional Dress
The Business Undergraduate Mentorship Program (BUMP) is bringing first-year students everything you need to know about professional dress in multiple settings and industries. We will help students make a great first impression at any event, interview, and social. Moreover, we will give some great tips on where to shop on a college budget, as well as local stores with discounted professional wear. We cannot wait to see you all on October 25th!

Florida Leadership Academy (FLA)

The Importance of DIB (Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging) in Corporate America
Diversity, inclusion, and belonging are important in every environment. In this workshop, students will learn to recognize and correct stereotypes by discussing their understandings of diversity and inclusion with those around them. Students will be shown different marketing campaigns and will be asked to recognize people’s similarities and differences, and how doing so can help them be better student leaders. Join us as we walk you through some companies’ most catastrophic marketing campaigns, and how diversity can ensure they never happen again.

Dr. Sevilla is the Associate Dean and Director of the Heavener School of Business. He has been in his role at Heavener for two years and with the Warrington College for 20 years, starting at UF MBA in 1998.

Heavener Leadership Challenge (HLC)

The Art of Storytelling
The Heavener Leadership Challenge (HLC) is Warrington’s premier personal leadership development program that gives students the necessary tools to develop their soft skills regarding communication, teamwork, and leadership. By reflecting on our past, we allow ourselves to shape our experiences and learn from our stories. Storytelling is a crucial component that leaders must utilize effectively and strategically. This session will focus on the power of storytelling and provide students with a better insight into when and how they can use their stories to their advantage.


Social Entrepreneurship
Social Entrepreneurs are willing to take on the risk and effort to create positive changes in society through their initiatives. Our Enactus chapter can help teach you how to make an impact by applying your business skills to come up with sustainable solutions to community issues. Each of us has within us an Entrepreneurial spirit.

Enactus is an international, nonprofit organization that works as a partnership between corporations and higher education to teach young people about business fundamentals.

Association of Latino Professionals For America (ALPFA)

Unlocking the Power of You
To discover the ability to inform, inspire and communicate the power of you. At this workshop, participants will identify what values are most important to them and how it relates to their professional goals. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of how to identify and prioritize their values impact business decision making and career choices. Through personal reflection, soul searching, and honesty participants will have better self-awareness and a more defined professional development plan.

Leadership Development Program (LDP)

How to Find your Dream Career using Goal Setting
In this session, The Leadership Development Program teaches you how goal setting can guide you in your career search. Attendees will learn a goal-setting framework to improve how they currently set goals. Additionally, top leadership from LDP will share their experiences using goal setting and display how goal setting helped them earn their full-time job offers with their dream companies. By the end of the session, you will leave with a written, actionable goal that will guide you in your career search.
