Megan Mocko chair-elect for the American Statistical Association

Megan Mocko, senior lecturer at the Warrington College of Business, has been elected chair-elect for 2027 of the Section on Statistics and Data Science Education for the American Statistical Association (ASA). 

The ASA is the world’s largest group of statisticians. Founded in 1839, it is now the second-oldest, continuous operating professional association in the U.S. 

The ASA’s vision is to create a world that uses data and statistical thinking to drive discovery and decision-making. With members in more than 90 countries, the ASA promotes statistical practice to inform public policy and improve human welfare in industry, government and academia. 

Mocko teaches business statistics for undergraduate and graduate students. She joined the University of Florida in 2001 and has won college-level teaching awards, two in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and one in Warrington College of Business, for her excellence in the classroom. She served as programming chair for the electronic Conference on Teaching of Statistics in 2020, 2022 and 2024. Previously, she was the co-chair of the ASA-endorsed 2016 Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education. 

Mocko graduated from the University of Florida in 2025 with an Ed.D. in curriculum instruction, with an emphasis in educational technology. With continued efforts to support statistics and data science education, she has co-facilitated several faculty learning communities with the Center for Teaching Excellence, including AI+RiTL (Artificial Intelligence + Research in Teaching in Learning). She is also an associate editor for the Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education.
