The Real Estate track prepares students for careers in residential and commercial real estate, including development, real estate appraisal and investment, real estate private equity, mortgage lending, commercial brokerage, leasing, and asset management. Real estate students are supported by the staff and advisory board members of Bergstrom Real Estate Center. Students are provided with extensive opportunities to understand the multiple career paths that are available in the Real Estate track, as well as the resources and training they need to prepare and excel in this industry.

Training

Students in the Real Estate track will pursue a minor in RE or MSRE. The minor introduces students to the business of commercial real estate, including the roles, activities, and players in the industry, common terminology, and the real estate transaction process. For students, a large menu of professional development activities will provide insights on the commercial real estate market, keep them up-to-date on market developments, and allow them to learn how investment professionals are thinking about current issues.

  • Legal Environment of Business (BUL 4310)
  • Principles of Macroeconomics (ECO 2013) or Microeconomics (ECO 2023)

  • Career prep and coaching (Resume, LinkedIn, mock interviews, internship search)
  • Employer engagement (info sessions, networking)
  • Enhanced training of Excel, Powerpoint, and presentation skills
  • Real Estate analysis within excel through FARM (Financial Analysis with Real Estate Modeling)
  • Exposure to the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) surveys, research reports, and the PREA Quarterly magazine
  • Exploring real estate sub-tracks (e.g., development, appraisal, mortgage lending, private equity, public real estate markets)
