SUMMARY:58th PURC International Training Program on Utility Regulation and Strategy
DESCRIPTION:The international training program is an intensive course specifically tailored to the professional requirements of utility regulators and regulatory staff. The course is designed to enhance the economic\, technical\, and policy skills required for implementing policies and managing sustainable regulatory systems for infrastructure sectors. Each program encompasses more than 35 sessions that include case studies\, practical exercises and panel discussions with leading experts and international faculty. You will learn: \n\nWhy countries are reforming their utility sectors and the basic approaches\nHow competition affects tariff rebalancing\, cross-subsidization\, and funding of social obligations\nHow to conduct price reviews\nHow to determine the cost of capital and assess the projects\, particularly in countries with scarce or unreliable cost information\nWhat incentive rules promote competition\, efficiency\, and innovation\nWhat the effective regulatory strategies are for monitoring performance and enforcing compliance\nWhere competitive forces can be introduced or strengthened\nWhat the key considerations are in rate design\nWhat the key considerations are for the establishment and functioning of regulatory institutions\nHow the regulatory process can promote legitimacy and credibility of regulatory decisions\n\nSave the date!\nApplications for the January 2027 training program will be available late summer 2026. \nArtificial Intelligence in Utility Regulation\nAs the utility landscape rapidly evolves\, the role of emerging technologies—especially Artificial Intelligence—is becoming increasingly important. At PURC\, we are committed to equipping you with the tools and insights to stay ahead. We’re excited to highlight for the January program: Artificial Intelligence in Utility Regulation. This year\, participants in the PURC/World Bank International Training Program on Utility Regulation and Strategy will receive a two-part video series on the Basics of AI for Utility Regulation. These videos explore: \n\nWhat AI is and how it works\nReal-world applications in utility regulation\nThe benefits and risks regulators need to consider\n\nThen\, during the on-site program\, we’ll dive deeper in Session 15: The Challenge of Artificial Intelligence. This interactive session will help you explore how AI is already shaping decision-making—and how you can be involved. \nProgram Fees\nFees for the January 2027 program will be posted in late summer 2026. DESCRIPTION:A one-day intensive training for leaders in utility policy.\nMany people are called upon to provide leadership. Some succeed; many fail. In this workshop you will examine the activities\, behaviors\, mindsets and skills of a successful leader. \nAs a participant you will learn and practice the following:\n\nIdentify and build a leadership style that encourages collaboration and team cohesiveness.\nExamine the personal practices of successful leaders in developing vision\, resolving conflicts and setting priorities.\nDiscover how to identify the key attributes of your organization. Learn how executive leaders create an organizational focus and creative tension around the most important priorities.\nDevelop an accountability system for addressing your most important challenges. Create a strategy for managing the relationships that are critical to your success.\nIdentify the current morale of your workforce and learn intervention methods to create a truly great place to work.\nReceive feedback from trusted colleagues in order to develop skills for managing yourself and others.\n\nWorkshop Methodology\nThe PURC Leadership Workshop will use the “field laboratory” method of examining participants’ own leadership challenges. Most learning will take place in teams and will use personal cases and scenarios as teaching points.
