The Fisher School of Accounting Council (FSOAC) is part of the campus-wide Board of College Councils. The Council serves as a liaison between the accounting students and faculty. It sponsors professional and social programs for the benefit of accounting students and participates in projects that serve our community.
There are two ways to get involved with the Council. Any registered students in good standing with the University of Florida can participate in our activities as non-voting members. Non-voting members may serve on committees, but do not have the right to make motions or to vote on questions put before the Council. Voting members are students who have been admitted to the Fisher School of Accounting, are in good standing with the University of Florida, and have achieved a minimum bronze-level of membership. Voting members may serve on committees, make motions and vote on questions put before the Council.
FSOAC Points System and Membership Levels
Points are earned by attending the various Council events which are weighted differently based on the event type. There are three classifications that Fisher School of Accounting Council voting members can be guaranteed to achieve by reaching a predetermined point benchmark:
Gold: Gold level members, the most active and influential within the organization, are the 15 highest point earners at the end of the semester. In addition to the bronze-level benefits, gold-level members will have first priority when signing up for Council trips, and receive a special prize as recognition at the final meeting of the semester. Freshmen and sophomore accounting students who achieve gold-member status will be granted access to the J. Michael Cook/Deloitte Student Commons.
Silver: Silver level members are the next 15 highest point earners after gold. In addition to the bronze-level benefits, silver-level members receive second priority when signing up for Council trips.
Bronze: Bronze level members are the next 15 highest point earners after silver. Bronze-level members receive recognition in the FSOAC career fair binder distributed to employers, are eligible to run for an executive board position, and have the right to vote.
Points will be available based on the following scale:
Concessions Fundraisers: 6 (see penalty below)
General Body Meetings: 4
Community Service: 4
General Fundraisers: 3
Mentor/Mentee Program: 3
Event/Project Manager: 2
VITA Certification (for the current year): 2
Per VITA session (cap of 10 points including certification): 1
Per Intramural game attended: 2
Per Advertising Committee Meeting attended (requires participation): 2
Per all other Committee Meetings attended: 1
Penalty: A four point penalty will be issued for a member who chooses to sign up for a concessions fundraiser but does not show up to fulfill his/her slot. You can avoid this penalty by: (a) giving a three days notice of your cancellation to the Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer via email (in order to keep a record) or (b) by sending another council member to replace you and informing the Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer via email or telephone at least one hour prior to the start of the event.
The Fisher School of Accounting Council executive board reserves the right to assign points to additional FSOAC-related events.
