Bryan Williams (MBA ’14)

Bryan, the Executive Director of the Community Foundation of South Lake, was recently profiled in the Orlando Sentinel. He leads the organization’s fundraising efforts, which provide approximately $300,000 annually to nonprofits and individuals in the South Lake area while managing the Foundation’s $12 million in assets. He has nearly a decade of nonprofit management experience, and most recently served as Chief Financial Officer of the Halifax Humane Society.

Alex Sunnarborg (BSBA ’13)

Alex and fellow co-founders Pieter Gorsira and Patrick Archambeau recently launched Lawnmower, an innovative financial app to that invests spare change into Bitcoin. Alex, based in San Francisco, previously served as a Public Finance/Debt Investment Banking Analyst at Raymond James Financial in St. Petersburg. 

Rachel Barzilay (BSBA ’08)

Rachel is a Wealth Management Advisor, Senior Vice President at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management- The Barzilay Group in Coral Springs. Rachel was recently named to WealthManagement.com’s 40 Wirehouse Advisors Under 40. Rachel is a Certified Financial Planner™ professional that focuses on goals based wealth management.

Farrell Simon (PharmD ’07, MBA ’07)

Farrell, based in New York City, was recently promoted to Commercial Director at Pfizer within Global Marketing and Commercial Development. In addition to his recent work success, Farrell and his wife, Elise, are happy to announce the arrival of their first child, Harper Eve Simon, born Aug. 25.

Louis Garcia (BSADV ’94, MED ’97, MSE ’05)

Louis Garcia recently moved to Seattle to serve as Chief Operating Officer and Donation Center Executive Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Puget Sound. This is his third Big Brothers Big Sisters agency to execute aggressive growth goals. He recently served as Chief Executive Officer of the agency in Tallahassee for six years, where he more than doubled the agency's size, and launched an operation that collects clothing and sells it to entrepreneurs in developing countries.

Matthew Nelson (MS ’02, MSM ’02)

Matthew has been a Director of External Companion Diagnostic Partnerships at Ventana Medical Systems since 2012. Matthew, based in Austin, Texas, examines the oncology portfolios of global biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in an effort to strategically align tissue diagnostic test development and results with the appropriate cancer therapy. Matthew says, “The degrees and connections I developed at UF prepared me for my role, and for understanding the impact I might have within the field of personalized medicine.”

Ryan Featherstone (BSBA ’01)

Ryan was recently named a Shareholder at Dunlap & Moran, P.A., a multi-practice law firm with offices in Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch. Ryan, who appeared as a Rising Star in Florida Super Lawyers for a second consecutive year, practices in real estate finance and litigation, real property law and business transactions among other areas.

Jennifer Plotkin (BSBA ’92)

Jennifer was recently named TD Bank’s Regional Vice President for North Florida. Jennifer, based in Jacksonville, has more than 20 years of banking experience, and has previously served as a Senior Vice President at BBVA Compass and Bank of America.

Satya Prabhakar (MS ’88, MBA ’89)

Satya is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sulekha, one of India’s largest and fastest-growing digital platforms, funded by Norwest Venture Partners (Palo Alto), Mitsui (Tokyo) and GIC (Singapore). In July, the company was a finalist for the mBillionth Award honoring mobile innovations in South Asia.

Leo Wiener (BSBA ’84, MBA ’86)

Leo recently joined Ackerman & Co. as President of Ackerman Retail. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ackerman & Co, founded in 1967, is a privately held, full-service commercial real estate firm with a focus on the Southeast. To date, Ackerman & Co. has developed and acquired more than 30 million square feet of office, medical, retail and mixed-use space, has nearly 4 million square feet under management, and maintains an investment portfolio valued at $750 million.

Henry “Skip” Heydt (BSBA ’65)

Skip recently retired after serving as President and Owner of HEH Associates, a marketing consulting firm in Wilton, Conn., he founded in 1979. Skip, who served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Independence and in the U.S. Marine Corps, previously worked at Union Carbide Corp.—a subsidiary of Dow Chemical—Corporate Appraisal Co., and Defense Marketing Services, Inc., in Greenwich, Conn. Skip now lives in St. Augustine.
