Graduation & Honors

Graduating students are encouraged to participate in commencement exercises. Your family and friends are welcome to join us in celebrating your accomplishments. Commencement exercises are free and open to the public; tickets or reservations are not required.

NOTE: To receive a diploma and participate in commencement, you must complete the UF Graduation Checklist, which includes the submission of an online degree application by the established deadline.

Graduate with Honors

To graduate with honors, you must earn a specified GPA in ALL THREE of the following areas: 1) overall UF GPA, 2) business core GPA, and 3) major or area of specialization GPA (see table). In addition, students who wish to graduate magna and summa cum laude must write an honors thesis (see below for thesis guidelines). Tip: Your honors thesis can also serve as a University Scholars Program research project! Learn more about Honors Requirements and the University Scholars Program.

Business Majors with 2003 or Later Catalog Year

Honors Designation GPA Requirements
Cum Laude (Honors) 3.5 UF, Core, and Major GPAs
Magna Cum Laude (High Honors) 3.7 UF, Core, Major GPAs + thesis
Summa Cum Laude (Highest Honors) 3.9 UF, Core, Major GPAs + thesis

Business Majors with 2002 or Earlier Catalog Year

Cum Laude (Honors) 3.2 UF, Core, and Major GPAs
Magna Cum Laude (High Honors) 3.6 UF, Core, Major GPAs + thesis
