Take Useful Electives

Both the college and UF offers a number of interesting, useful electives that will enrich your business education. Consider taking one or more of the following:

ACG 3802 Professional Speaker Series

To expose students to technical topics and emerging issues in accounting, business, and in related professions such as law. The course will also address career opportunities in the practice of public accounting, industry, financial services, government, and in business more generally.

GEB 3035 Effective Career Management in Business

This elective course, which accommodates students who are at different levels of decidedness about their career aspirations, is designed to inform students about career planning and management interventions. Business majors can take this course to satisfy part of their restricted elective requirement.

GEB 3213 Professional Writing in Business

"Professional Business Writing" is a course specifically designed to help business students hone their written communication skills. Business majors can take this course to satisfy part of their restricted elective requirement. GEB 3213 also satisfies the General Education Composition requirement and 6,000 words of Gordon Rule writing. The Dial Center for Written and Oral Communication has information on other useful communication electives.

WCBA Center for Management Communication

GEB 3218 Business Speaking and Presentation Skills

Designed to teach business students the fundamental communication skills necessary for succeeding in a business setting, including presentations and speeches, interpersonal skills, and interviewing.

ISM 3004 Computing in the Business Environment

This course is designed to improve your computer literacy and help you better understand the role technology plays in the work environment. ISM 3004 will make you conversant in IT concepts so you come across to others as technologically aware. This is not a programming or office applications course; it does teach new technology skills like podcasting, encrypted email, and building a web page to showcase your newly acquired skills. General studies majors (BA-GBA) can take this course to satisfy part of their restricted elective requirement.

MAR 2290 Retail Management Seminar

A series of weekly lectures features a different executive making a presentation on his/her area of expertise. Major issues in retailing are addressed. Discussions of career opportunities and career paths in retailing are included.

SLS 1102 Warrington Welcome - First Year Florida

This freshman level orientation course introduces business students to the WCBA and provides them information on resources, career development, campus involvement, and an opportunity to interact with WCBA faculty, staff, and peers.
