Finance Senior Wins ALSB Best Paper Award

Finance Senior Wins ALSB Best Paper Award Chandi Abeygunawardana, a senior in finance, received a prize for Distinguished Student Paper at the awards banquet at the Academy of Legal Studies in Business (ALSB) Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Her paper is titled “Professional Socialization for the Ethical Role: How Military and Medical Schools Socialize Their Professionals into the Ethical Role and the Implications for Business Schools.” The paper will be published in the Proceedings of the 2005 ALSB meeting in August. It is one of only two papers selected for publication out of 19 submitted nationally.

This past year, Chandi worked closely with Virginia Maurer, Huber Hurst Professor in Business Law and Legal Studies, her faculty mentor in the University Scholars Program. Chandi’s research and attendance at the ALSB annual meeting was sponsored by the University Scholars Program and by the Poe Center for Business Ethics (for which Professor Maurer also serves as director) in the Warrington College. Chandi conducted her research at the USMA at West Point and UF’s College of Medicine.
