Mike Odell, CEO & Director, Pep Boys, Talks About Competing in the Automotive Aftermarket

After four years in the red, Pep Boys has turned the corner. Odell, the fifth CEO in seven years, outlined the company’s growth strategy for UF students enrolled in the Sears Seminar Series. While most auto parts retailers target commercial and DIY (Do It Yourself) market segments, Pep Boys is the only national auto parts retailers that provides heavy services (services requiring under the repairs as opposed to oil changes) targeted toward the DIFM (Do It For Me) segment. Odell feels that Pep Boys is well positioned to target the DIFM segment. He expects the DIFM to grow faster than the DIY segment because of the increasing complexity and technology used in automobiles.
