Combined Degree in Information Systems & Operations Management (BS/MS)

Program Overview

Today's business leaders must draw from a variety of disciplines in order to become effective decision-makers. The Combined Degree program in Information Systems and Operations Management is designed to provide students with computing, quantitative and applications skills vital to a business problem-solving setting. The ISOM program requirements span traditional academic disciplines to produce a multi-disciplinary major. ISOM graduates typically fill such positions as Decision Support Specialist, Information Systems Specialist and Systems Analyst.

Students from a variety of backgrounds, including business administration and engineering, enroll in the Combined Degree program. Students without a business background may need an additional semester in the program. To obtain the master's degree, there is no thesis requirement and no option to write a thesis in place of required course work. Students may choose a track in either information technology or supply chain management.

The university created combined degree programs to provide academically talented students an opportunity to complete a bachelor's and a master's degree in a shorter period of time. The program allows you to 'double-count' graduate courses toward both degrees, thus reducing the time it would normally take to graduate by a semester. The combined degree program reduces the cost of both degrees and enhances your marketability for career advancement.

Students who are admitted into the Combined Degree program in ISOM may enroll in 12-16 credits of graduate course work during their junior and senior years. If earned with a grade of 'B' or better, these credits will satisfy requirements for both the bachelor's and master's degree, pending admission to the Graduate School. If the student does not continue on to graduate school, the course work taken will still satisfy undergraduate degree requirements.

In the Warrington College of Business Administration, graduate courses are organized in a modular system. The modular system allows students to focus intensely on course content over a six-week period with a week break in between. The four modules are conducted over a nine-month period, beginning in fall and terminating in spring of the following year.
