Fisher School of Accounting 2012 Spring Awards Banquet

Over 200 guests attended the Fisher School of Accounting's annual Spring Awards Banquet on April 19th at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center. Students recognized for their outstanding academic performance and superior service to the Fisher School of Accounting included fellowship winners, Beta Alpha Psi initiates, FSOA Student Council gold members, and presidents of the accounting student organizations. FSOA Participates in International Executive Master of Auditing

The University of Florida Fisher School of Accounting is pleased to announce its participation in the International Executive Master of Auditing. The program is a combined effort with Maastricht University and Free University Amsterdam (VU). (1/12)

2nd Annual Student vs. Faculty Softball Game

On November 13, 2011, faculty and students gathered at Albert "Ray" Massey West Side Park for the 2nd Annual Student vs. Faculty Softball Game. Perfect weather set the scene for this annual battle between the defending faculty champions and the students. Faculty, friends, family, and students came out to cheer for their teams. (11/11)

Ernst & Young Student Assistant Suite Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On September 26, 2011, The Fisher School of Accounting and Ernst & Young held a ribbon cutting ceremony as the Student Assistant Suite located in Gerson 125 was honored with Ernst & Young’s name. Ernst & Young has generously donated money to support the Student Assistant program in Gerson Hall. (9/11)

Michael Poiani Selected to Participate in KPMG Global Internship

Out of hundreds of applicants from universities across the country, Michael Poiani was one of only nine students selected to participate in the KPMG Global Internship program. Participants in this program travel overseas to work as part of international client engagement teams. Fisher School of Accounting Ph.D. Students Receive Significant Honors

Stephen Brown, a Ph.D. student at the Fisher School of Accounting at the Warrington College of Business Administration, is a recipient of a 2011 American Accounting Association/Grant Thornton Doctoral Dissertation Award for Innovation in Accounting Education. (6/11)

The 29th Annual Survey of Accounting Professors published by Public Accounting Report (PAR) ranked the Fisher School of Accounting's undergraduate program 2nd and graduate program 3rd among national universities with similar faculty size. (1/11)

Fisher School of Accounting Hosts 4th Annual Women in Accounting Symposium

On January 7-8, the Fisher School of Accounting held its 4th Annual Women in Accounting Symposium bringing together some of the most successful female leaders and educators in the field of accounting. (1/11)

FSOAC is Undefeated in Co-rec Recreational League

FSOAC ranked first in their division in the Co-rec Recreational League with a perfect standing of 8-0. They had total offensive runs of 102 and only 43 runs scored against them -- the best record for both. (12/10)

Jaclyn Freesman Selected to be UF Representative for the International Student Business Forum

Fisher School of Accounting student Jaclyn Freesman has been selected to travel to Athens, Greece in March 2011 to be the UF representative on the U.S. team for the International Student Business Forum (ISBF) hosted by Deloitte. (12/10)

Fisher School of Accounting Students Receive Honorable Mention at Deloitte Case Competition

Fisher School of Accounting students Jennifer Glenn, Jacob Hart, Daniel Johnson and Kelsey Lueck received honorable mention for their performance in the Deloitte Tax Case Study Competition. (11/10)

Joel Demski Honored with Lifetime Contribution Award

Dr. Joel Demski, Frederick E. Fisher Eminent Scholar in the Fisher School of Accounting, has been awarded the 2010 Lifetime Contribution to Management Accounting Award by the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association. (10/10)

Robert Knechel is appointed Editor of Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory

Ernst & Young Professor of Accounting Dr. W R Knechel has been appointed Editor of Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. Dr. Knechel has previously served on the publication's editorial board as an Associate Editor and has been a frequent contributor to the journal. His three-year term as Editor begins June 30, 2011. Fisher School of Accounting Students Support Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)

About 150 students from the Fisher School of Accounting prepared approximately 750 tax returns for low-income families this spring. The families received $1.2 million in tax refunds and saved an estimated $150,000 in tax preparation costs. (04/10)

FSOA Students Earn Top 5 National Finalists in PwC xTax Competition

PwC xTax (Extreme Tax) is a nationwide campus competition that gives students the opportunity to work with a group of their fellow students as well as with PwC professionals, to model real world decision making by formulating answers to some of the same issues that challenge today's business and government leaders. For the first time since UF has been participating in the xTax competition, the UF winning team was selected as one of the five national finalists from over 400 teams at participating universities across the country. The 28th Annual Survey of Accounting Professors published by Public Accounting Report (PAR) recently recognized the Fisher School of Accounting as having one the most admired undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs in the U.S. (12/09)

FSOA Students Receive Honorable Mention in the 2009 Deloitte Tax Case Study Competition

Led by faculty advisor Sandra Kramer, a team of Fisher School of Accounting students received honorable mention in the graduate division of the 2009 Deloitte Tax Case Study Competition. Each student on the team received $200 and the school received $2,000.00. (10/09)

Fisher School of Accounting Maintains AACSB Accreditation

The Fisher School of Accounting was among 14 schools that maintained their accreditation in accounting, AACSB International announced in April. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting. (4/09)

Accounting Student Inducted into the Warrington Hall of Fame

At the 2009 School of Business Awards Banquet, Jebi Mathew (BSAc, '09) was inducted into the Warrington College of Business Administration Hall of Fame. This is the highest honor that can be bestowed on an undergraduate in business or accounting. Students are selected based on their outstanding contributions to the Warrington community and mentorship of their peers. (4/09)

KPMG LLP, the audit, tax, and advisory firm, has selected Fisher School of Accounting students Sharon Koele and Tatiana Lewinsky for its 2008 Future Diversity Leaders (FDL) class. (11/08)

Backpacking through Accounting

While most students gain their accounting knowledge through classroom studies at the Fisher School of Accounting, Daniel Riger and Sharon Lashinsky recently were selected to participate in an international accounting research project. The project was based in Maastricht, one of the oldest and perhaps most charming city in the Netherlands. (10/08)

On September 3, 2008, the Fisher School of Accounting held its 2nd Annual Regional & Local Firm Accounting Career Social in the J. Michael Cook/Deloitte Student Commons. (9/08)

International Academy of African Business and Development Conference

The International Academy of African Business and Development held its 2008 Conference at the University of Florida Hotel & Conference Center on May 20-24, 2008. Barri Litt Receives Prestigious Elijah Watt Sells Award

Over 50,000 candidates attempted the CPA exam and, Fisher School of Accounting alumna Barri Litt was honored as one of the 2007 Elijah Watt Sells Award recipients. (2/08)

Fisher School Participates in Grant from EU for New Research

The Fisher School of Accounting is collaborating with the Maastricht Accounting, Auditing, and Information Management Research Center (Maastricht University, Netherlands) in a grant awarded by the European Union for a new research project on auditing standards. (2/08)

Fisher School Cracks Public Accounting Report's Top 10 List

The Fisher School of Accounting was ranked the #10 graduate program in the US in the 26th Annual Professor's Survey published by Public Accounting Report magazine. FSOA moved up three spots from 2006 and, among U.S. public schools, is ranked #7 for its master's program. FSOA's doctoral program also appeared in this year's survey for the first time, coming in at #23. (10/07)

Fisher School Students enjoy Local Firm Accounting Career Social
