For many accountants, the highest professional distinction one can earn is the designation of Certified Public Accountant (CPA). In addition to meeting stringent educational and ethical requirements, CPAs must also pass a series of four examinations covering: Auditing and Attestation (AUD), Business Environment and Concepts (BEC), Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), and Regulation (REG). Performance on these exams is also an important measure of success for accounting programs.

Exam performance for 2008 was recently released (October 2009), and the results show 120 undergraduate and 28 graduate students from the Fisher School of Accounting took part or the entire exam during the 2008 year.

FSOA first-time candidates with advanced degrees distinguished themselves by scoring:

  • highest in the nation (100%) on the Regulation portion of the exam.
  • third highest in the nation (88%) on the Auditing and Attestation portion of the exam.
  • eighth highest in the nation (90%) on the Business Environment and Concepts portion of the exam.

FSOA first-time candidates without advanced degrees distinguished themselves by scoring:

  • fourth highest in the nation (81%) on the Auditing and Attestation portion of the exam.

Rankings comparing FSOA student performance relative to the performance by students from peer academic institutions are provided in the links below. The links also provide similar tables comparing FSOA student performance to that of other academic institutions in Florida.
