University of Florida 2009 Video Innovation Contest

Five days...one simple everyday object...create as much value as possible!! (and capture it all in a 3-minute YouTube video!!)

This year's mystery object: SHOELACES!!

Inspired by Stanford University and in conjunction with a visit to the University of Florida by Blake Mycoskie, Founder of TOMS Shoes, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) will be hosting a video innovation contest.

Entrepreneurship is all about leveraging resources and taking action with the goal of creating value. Work individually...put together a team...represent an organization!! And remember, value can be measured in many different ways... How will you measure it?

Your challenge is to use an assigned, everyday object to create as much "value" as possible, and capture it all in a 3-minute YouTube video.

The mystery object (in past years hosted by Stanford University...Post-It Notes and Rubber Bands...see past examples of winners) will be revealed on our website on Wednesday, October 28 at 12:00 PM. Final videos must be uploaded and submitted by Monday, November 2 at 8:00 AM.

The winning video will be selected by Blake Mycoskie, Founder of TOMS Shoes, and will be recognized and debuted at his Accent speaking event on the evening of Wednesday, November 4 at the UF Phillips Center for Performing Arts. In addition, the winning team will receive:

  • $500 (to be split amongst team members). As this prize is paid out as a scholarship we regret that we are unable to offer prize money to non-U.S. citizens.
  • Tickets to attend CEI's annual 300-person Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Dinner taking place in April 2010

To be successful: challenge assumptions, seize opportunities, and be creative!
