Founder of TOMS Shoes to Speak at the University of Florida
GAINESVILLE, Fla., -- As a witness to South American poverty, Blake Mycoskie decided he could change the world. Following a 2006 vacation to Argentina, Mycoskie established TOMS Shoes; a sustainable, for-profit company with a philanthropic mission. The organization gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes purchased. Since its inception, Mycoskie's company has delivered over 150,000 pairs of shoes.

To be successful, artists must be dynamic and reactive, passionate and motivated, and innovative and entrepreneurial. On October 10, 2009, the College of Fine Arts and Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation proudly hosted JumpstART II: Going Solo! A Workshop in Creative Entrepreneurship.

Trey Lauderdale (MSE '07) remembers his "A-ha" moment well. It came on March 6, 2008. As a student in the Master of Entrepreneurship program, like many others, he had awaited Apple's release of the iPhone Software Developer's Kit with great anticipation. Literally thousands of developers couldn't wait to start making simple games and amusing applications, but Lauderdale sat in his office, plotting something far greater—a communication revolution that would redefine the point-of-care in hospitals.
