Faculty Development in International Business

As part of its mission to enhance the international competitiveness of U.S. businesses, CIBERs around the country offer annual Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) programs, study tours that allow faculty to gain hands-on knowledge of global business, economics, and culture. The programs are run in early January and May each year.

2009-2010 FDIBs

December 16, - December 23, 2009
FDIB, Mumbai and Chennai, India, Sponsored by Florida International University
Participants will visit to top multinational companies and leading Indian firms, as well as hear lectures from leading experts, to experience firsthand how Indian businesses are weathering the global economic crisis.

January 2 - January 14, 2010
Vietnam FDIB, Sponsored by the University of Hawaii and the University of Wisconsin Madison
Participants will compare and contrast the business environments in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, beginning with briefings from U.S. commercial attachés and followed by visits to businesses in several sectors, including manufacturing, professional services, retail, food-processing, education, health care, and microfinance.

January 3 - January 15, 2010
China Faculty Development Program, Sponsored by the University of Colorado Denver
Faculty will compare the growth of China's top two regions—the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta—by meeting with business executives and government officials and visiting cultural sites, businesses, and universities in both locations.

January 4 - January 15, 2010
FDIB India, Sponsored by the University of Connecticut
Faculty will attend lectures, participate in discussion sessions, and visit companies, meeting with experts from business, media, government, and academia.

May 8 - 19, 2010
FDIB, MERCOSUR, Sponsored by Florida International University
Participants will travel to Brazil, Argentina and Chile to meet with business faculty from leading academic institutions, business executives from multinational companies and government officials.

May 9 - 20, 2010
Business in a European Context, Sponsored by the University of Memphis
Participants will travel to Strasbourg, France, to meet with leading academics and business experts to discuss the latest developments in European business and cultural issues, conduct on-site visits to a variety of industries, and understand the function and structure of the European Union. The program also features side trips to Frankfurt and Stuttgart, Germany.

May 10 - 26, 2010
Understanding the Business Challenges of Africa, Sponsored by the University of South Carolina
Faculty will visit Johannesburg and Pretoria, South Africa and Nairobi, Nakuru, and Amboseli, Kenya, where they will participate in numerous business visits, cultural tours, and academic seminars.

May 19 - 30, 2010
FDIB: European Economies in Transition, Sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh
Faculty will travel to Prague, Czech Republic; Zagreb, Croatia; and Istanbul, Turkey, to attend lectures, visit companies, and meet with business leaders and academic experts.
