PUCP Conference on Regulation in Energy, Water and Telecommunications
More than 90 university students and faculty attended this conference to learn about regulation in energy, water and telecommunications from specialists in infrastructure. PURC Director of Water Studies Dr. Sandy Berg delivered the presentation, Fundamentals of Regulatory Systems: Lessons from the Global Experience. This conference was organized by the Graduate School of PUCP: Masters Program on Regulation of Public Services. Roxana Barrantes (PUCP Professor and January 1997PURC/WB alumna) was another featured speaker from Peru.
PURC has worked closely with universities and regulatory commissions in Peru for more than a decade, providing onsite training for water regulators (1999), and collaborating with Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) to develop the Body of Knowledge for Infrastructure Regulation, www.regulationbodyofknowledge.org.
Between 1997 and 2000, more than 20 infrastructure professionals from Peru attended the PURC/World Bank International Training Program (when agencies were being established in Peru); in addition, 15 others have visited the University of Florida in the last decade for training. Thus, PURC alumni are active in developing and implementing infrastructure policy in Peru. In addition to his public presentations in Lima, Dr. Bergmet with PURC alumni about ways in which developing countries can promote investments in renewable energy (at OSINERGMIN - regulator for energy and mining), and how benchmarking can improve the performance of water systems (at SUNASS-water regulator).
