Congratulations to the graduates of the 37th delivery of this program. In January 2015, 51 participants traveled from 26 nations for the 37th delivery of this program to enhance their economic, technical, and policy skills.

Current Issues in Regulation: Droughts, Renewables, Investments and You

How can a country deal with water shortages caused by droughts? The first step is to realize that there is already a market for water resources and that a sustainable solution will always include making that market work more effectively. This was key takeaway from the seminar “Current Issues in Regulation: Droughts, Renewables, Investments and You” presented by PURC Director Mark A Jamison on December 5, 2014, to the Agência Reguladora de Saneamento e Energia in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Reset for Regulation and Utilities: Leadership for a Time of Constant Change

“Regulating Utilities in a Changing Environment” was the main theme of OOCUR's 12th Annual Conference held in Dominica, November 18-21, 2014. As a presenter and panelist, PURC Director of Leadership Studies, Ms. Araceli Castaneda introduced PURC's concept of adaptive regulation to the audience. This concept is a framework to understand the regulation of public utilities in a time of great uncertainty.

Bermuda Energy Summit 2014

Dr. Ted Kury chaired Bermuda's 2014 Energy Summit. He delivered opening and closing remarks, performed the official introductions, and introduced each panel. He also moderated a panel “Less is More: The Need for Energy Efficiency Standards, Incentives & Programs.” The panel considered the need for energy efficiency standards, incentives and programs and other key energy opportunities as Bermuda moves through the next phase of national energy planning.

International Experiences on Sector Reform and Lessons Learned

Peru

Dr. Sandy Berg was invited to deliver a series of lectures at the Maestría en Regulación de los Servicios Públicos Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. His presentations intended to encourage thinking on how particular factors have promoted or hindered performance in infrastructure. These lectures were meant to serve as a focus for Peru to re-dedicate efforts to strengthen regulation and improve their energy and water sectors.

Congratulations to David Brown, Ph.D. University of Florida, for receiving the TPUG Dissertation award. His dissertation is entitled, “Three Essays on Capacity Payment Mechanisms in Wholesale Electricity Markets.”
