MSRE Program Accepting Applications

Do you or someone you know want to further their skills in the commercial real estate industry? We are currently accepting applications for the next class of MSRE students. The program begins on July 2nd and now features an international study tour to Chile, in addition to a comprehensive set of core real estate courses and a broad array of finance, entrepreneurship, development, building construction, and urban and regional planning electives. 4th Annual Real Estate Forum A Success

The Bergstrom Center for Real Estate studies held its fourth annual Real Estate Forum in Gainesville on January 24. Attended by realtors, builders and bankers and led by a panel, professionals discussed the future of real estate in Alachua County and surrounding areas. The panel included:

2013 Real Estate Trends & Strategies Conference the Largest Yet

MSRE Students Use Simulation Game to Learn about Land Use

In January, MSRE students participated in the resurrection of a nearly 50-year-old team simulation game, the Community Land Use Game, or CLUG. Says Professor Wayne Archer, “It is the finest tool I know of to gain quick experience with strategic planning and business negotiation. I think we will be playing CLUG for a long time to come!”

Professor Ling Presents Research to Dallas Fed

David Ling, McGurn Professor of Real Estate and Director of the Nathan S. Collier MSRE Program, was invited to give a research presentation at the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank on March 1. In addition to meeting with some of the research economists at the Dallas Fed, Professor Ling presented a recent working paper titled "Credit Availability and Asset Pricing in Illiquid Markets" which was co-authored with UF finance professor Andy Naranjo and Ben Scheick, a former Ph.D. student who is currently an assistant professor of finance at Villanova University.

UF Partners with FSU to Co-host Academic Symposium

The second FSU-UF Critical Issues in Real Estate Symposium was held at FSU, April 4th through 6th. This annual academic symposium is a joint effort of the Bergstrom Center for Real Estate Studies at UF, the Center for Real Estate Education and Research at FSU, and the DeVoe L. Moore Center at FSU. The focus was on housing market issues, with a strong emphasis on causes and effects of recent housing distress. As with last year’s session at UF, the academic papers presented will become the basis for a special edition of the prestigious Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics.

Advisory Board Member John Crossman inducted into FSU College of Business Hall of Fame

John M. Crossman, president of Crossman & Company, a much sought-after speaker and writer on national retail issues and a passionate mentor of college students, was inducted into the Florida State University College of Business 2013 Hall of Fame in April.

Crossman oversees day to day operations at Crossman & Company, one of the largest retail leasing and management firms in the Southeastern United States. A prolific writer and speaker, he has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes.com, CBS News Radio, Shopping Centers Today, South Florida CEO and business journals throughout Florida. Advisory Board Member Robert Given Promoted to Vice Chairman at CBRE

CBRE promoted South Florida multifamily expert Robert Given to vice chairman, the highest attainable title for producers at CBRE. Formerly an executive vice president, Given and his 10-member team have provided representation to owners in the disposition of multifamily properties and development land for an excess of $12 billion in transaction value. Advisory Board Member Michael Greene Featured as “Top Lawyer” in 2013 South Florida Legal Guide

Boyd & Jenerette, P.A. Partner Michael Greene has been selected for inclusion to the South Florida Legal Guide as "Top Lawyer" for the 6th year in a row.

The 2013 edition was published in January and will be distributed throughout the attorney, CPA, financial and business community in the tri-county region.
