Spring-Break Study Tour: Sustainable Business in Costa Rica
This course, open to all WCBA graduate students, is designed to introduce participants to the special issues of doing business in a sustainable manner in an international context. Costa Rica has been chosen for its proximity to Florida, its accessibility, its varied industries, and its deliberate national strategy of balancing business competitiveness and considerations of humane labor practices and protecting the biologically diverse natural environment. Because it is a small, politically stable, and open democracy, a visitor may gain a 360-degree view of how the sustainability strategy works and does not work and what the implications are for doing business in the region. The course consists of two parts—a pre-trip course component and the study tour. The pre-trip component meets three or four times to gain knowledge of Costa Rican history and culture, business environment, natural environment, and major industries. In addition, students study readings on theories of sustainability.
International Financial Markets Tour
The tour combines classroom instruction with a week-long spring-break visit to financial institutions rotating each year between three countries in Latin America. This UF program is designed to accommodate both business and non-business graduate students, enhancing the richness of perspective both in the classroom and on the tour. Participating students represent a variety of UF graduate programs including MBA, MAIB (Master of Arts with a major in International Business), MSF (Master of Science in Finance), and MALAS (Master of Arts in Latin American Studies).
