Professional Speaker Series

Offered Fall and Spring semesters, the Professional Speaker Series (ACG3802) is designed to expose students to technical topics and emerging issues in accounting, business, and in related professions such as law. Guest speakers will provide a practicing professional's insights regarding technical issues and concerns affecting the accounting profession. Some sessions will relate to professional career planning, and the speakers will discuss various specialty areas, unusual occupations, unique firm practice structures, or non-traditional career opportunities. Presentations are followed by a reception during which time students can interact one-on-one with the speaker and his or her associates.

Attendance is limited to those students who have registered for the course or have advanced approval from the course coordinator. The course may not be repeated.

    About the Speakers:

    Ed Salek

    Ed is a CPA and partner in the firm with 17 years of public accounting experience. He leads our Jacksonville office’s accounting and audit practice. He earned his Master's and Bachelor's degrees from the University of Florida.

    Ed's experience includes serving a variety of companies including many with multi-state and international operations. He has worked with clients to successfully implement complex accounting standards in areas such as executive equity compensation and purchase accounting.

    Ed had the honor of being selected as one Northeast Florida's '40 under 40' by the Jacksonville Business Journal in 2011. He also speaks on accounting and business topics, most recently serving as a presenter at the University of Florida Professional Speaker Series in 2012 and 2013 and the First Coast Manufacturers’ Association Summit in 2013 on incentives for manufacturers.

    He also currently services as the First Coast Manufacturers Association's Finance Committee Chairperson and previously served the YMCA of Florida's First Coast Williams/DuPont branch as Board Chairperson.

    Jennie Muniz

    Jennie is a CPA and senior audit manager in the Jacksonville office with eight years of public accounting experience including with an international accounting firm prior to joining Dixon Hughes Goodman. She earned her Master's and Bachelor's degrees from the University of Maine.

    Jennie's experience includes serving a variety of public and private companies with multi-state and international operations. She also has significant employee benefit plan audit experience currently serving defined contribution, defined benefit, and ESOP plans.

    Jennie had the honor of being selected as one of Northeast Florida's '40 under 40' by the Jacksonville Business Journal for 2013 as well as one of the top 26 CPAs under 36 in the State of Florida by the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

    Jennie is highly involved in the community through the United Way of Northeast Florida's Resource Management Team, Atlantic Circle board of directors, and Women in Local Leadership initiative. She is also the Past President of the Jacksonville Chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

    About the Speakers:

    Katie Davis, CPA

    Katie has almost 10 years of experience in the accounting profession. As a certified public accountant and manager with James Moore, she has worked within a variety of industries, performing accounting services for commercial and nonprofit organizations, as well as on employee benefit plans. Specific services have included financial auditing and tax services, employee benefit plan auditing services, and consulting and advisory services. She is also a peer reviewer through the AICPA Peer Review Program.

    Certified in Lean Six Sigma, Katie has been instrumental in facilitating Lean Six Sigma engagements with both commercial and nonprofit organizations, including engagements involving multiple operational, accounting, and IT processes. Her background in accounting and her understanding of human resources allow her to use her expertise in business aspects of a process while also providing insight on empowering employees through training programs. She is also a two-time graduate of UF, receiving her Masters and Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

    Stacy Joyner, CPA

    With seven years of professional accounting experience, Stacy joined James Moore in January 2006 to complete a tax internship. Serving clients representing multiple industries, she is primarily responsible for completing complex business and personal returns for the firm's largest multi-state corporations, as well as private organizations and individuals, including those affiliated with technology start-ups.

    In addition to her client service, Stacy is responsible for overseeing the firm's tax internship program and leads new hire and internship tax training. She has conducted external presentations to industry and community groups on topics related to tax reporting. She graduated from UF with her Masters and a Bachelor of Science; both in accounting.

    About the Speaker:

    Louis Zaltsberg is Finance Director for Service Fossil of Siemens Energy, Inc. He is responsible for the finances of the largest Regional Segment of the Siemens Energy Service Fossil Business Unit, headquartered in Orlando.

    Mr. Zaltsberg has thirty-nine years of Corporate Operational Finance Experience. He has held assignments on three continents.

    Mr. Zaltsberg holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and a Master’s Degree in Accounting from Florida Atlantic University.

    About the Speakers:

    Rajiv Asnani, Investment Banking Analyst

    Rajiv Asnani graduated from the University of Florida in 2012 with his Bachelors and Masters in the science of Accounting. After graduation, he worked at Ernst & Young in Assurance and Transaction Advisory Services. Rajiv currently serves as an investment banking analyst at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in the Technology & Business Services group where he evaluates and executes numerous corporate and sponsor-backed transactions including mergers, acquisitions, LBOs and debt financings.

    Jeff Berryhill, Director

    Jeff joined SunTrust Robinson Humphrey's Structured Real Estate Group in 2005 and has over 13 years of banking, capital markets and real estate investment experience. He is currently responsible for the origination and structuring of real estate lease transactions for corporate clients of SunTrust in the Consumer/Retail, Healthcare, Energy, Financial Institutions and Technology, Private Equity and REIT industries. Jeff has originated, structured or closed approximately $2Bn in structured lease transactions. Prior to joining the group, Jeff spent time in SunTrust Bank’s Retail and Private Banking lines of business. Jeff received an undergraduate degree in Finance, as well as an MBA from the University of Florida. Jeff is also a CFA charterholder.

    About the Speaker:

    Melissa Leonard has been with Gleim for seven years and has served as the CMA Product Manager for the last two years. As the CMA Product Manager, she communicates with all areas of the company to ensure that Gleim is positioned to provide high quality, innovative solutions that help candidates pass the CMA Exam. She also works closely with local IMA and IIA chapters to increase membership and promote the CMA and CIA designations. She regularly travels to IMA, IIA, and chapter events to present the benefits of becoming certified and discuss the skills necessary to pass. In addition, she writes monthly articles geared toward IMA and IIA members striving to pass the CMA and CIA exams. As a CMA candidate herself, Melissa helps other candidates pass the CMA Exam by writing and starring in the Gleim Pass the CMA video series on YouTube. She is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and the Institute of Internal Auditors.

    Previously the Senior Personal Counselor at Gleim, Melissa assisted candidates in preparing for and passing the CIA, CMA, CPA, and EA exams. During that time, she became an expert on exam-taking techniques that keep the test-taker in control at all times, time-management skills that optimize both traditional and non-traditional study time, and studying methods that ensure success on the certification exams. Before joining the team at Gleim, she worked for five years on both the editorial and marketing teams at McGraw-Hill's Energy Publications.

    Melissa holds a Bachelor's degree in Communications and Social Sciences from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling; reading; Florida Gator sports; and spending time with friends, family, and her dog Khaleesi.
